KOAY is a radio station in Salt Lake City, Utah. It was a Contemporary Christian station which broadcasts at 97.5 MHz FM and was known as "97.5 The Oasis" with the slogan "Safe For The Whole Family", operating under a leasing agreement by the Simmons Media Group for Millcreek Broadcasting. The Oasis was unique among stations of its kind as it also broadcasts Contemporary Christian and Latter-day Saint music.
"The Oasis" branding was also used on CBS Radio station KOAI (now KMVK) as a Smooth jazz station in Dallas, Texas until 2006.
On January 2, 2008 KOAY went silent due to Millcreek's bankruptcy status, which in turn ended Simmons' operation deal with the station. An explanation for the abrupt terminantion can be found on the station's website. No word on if or when the station or the format will find a new home.
On March 3, 2008, the FCC received a request from the bankruptcy court to allow the station to remain silent, based on the reasons that the landlord of the transmitter site will not allow access to the site.[1]
