[edit] History

The station began in 1949 as KIBE, operating daytime only with 250 watts as it simulcast the classical music programming of KDFC-FM. It was owned and operated by Millard Kibbe.[4] It became known as KDFC-AM on 1984-03-01. On 1997-08-29, the station changed its call sign to KBPA, then on 1999-02-15 to KBZS, then on 2001-07-24 to KSFB, and finally on 2004-07-01 to the current KNTS ,[5]

[edit] New Transmitter

In November 2005, the FCC approved a construction permit for KNTS to boost its power to 50,000 watts day and night. The FCC also agreed to let KNTS build new transmitter towers, near the end of West Winton Avenue in Hayward (close to the San Mateo Bridge), to be shared with KFAX.[6] Construction of the new towers is still pending, due to objections from Hayward residents and an investigation by the City of Hayward. Plans call for four 200-foot towers on the site of a former dump.[7]
