[edit] My Wikipedia purpose

This is knoweth, my real name is Steven Burke and this user name was a challenge. Only in that many user names I tried were already in use. I thought of the philosopher Goethe (Dream no small dreams for they have no power!) as I was working with the word KNOW to come up with something and ended up with KNOWETH (which is admittedly a bit lame!)

I have taken a moment to write this for two reasons;

(1) One of the sysop's deleted a definition I added and an edit I did, then blocked my original user name (this I understood). Reason given for deleting the change in the topic TELEMARKETING was I was promoting a trademark that I own. Well, though I did register it but I did not create it, a sales trainer did 4 decades before I registered it. Since I am related to that man there has been no challenge in regards to ownership but that has nothing to do with this - the MARK is not in use, I was actually not promoting anything except a positive way of looking at COLD CALLING!

(2) The description or definition of TELEMARKETING and COLD CALLING and SALES are all (can I say ) bad, maybe even terrible. A couple with a basically negative slant, which is without doubt unwarranted and unnecessary. I would like to attempt to rewrite them carefully - this time I will leave out references to people in the sales training fields or trademarks - but want to insure that no sysop or anyone else gets the wrong idea of why it is being done. For example;

In the current definition of COLD CALLING there is reference to to pyramid schemes. Now, why an illegal business of any kind, let alone a pyramid, should be attached to a sales activity that is by far most often used in legitimate business is just beyond me, there is no reason to do give the great majority of those who are professional sales people a bad image. Furthermore, the definition can touch on negative issues, making light of them and how they fit into communications and sales techniques and put that into perspective by mentioning the positives uses too. This I will do my best to insure is done in a far more superior way than what is there already.

It is my desire to forward understanding without personal gain. To that end I promise (this time) that I will study the five pillars and, afterward, make a superior effort to assist in the small areas I understand profoundly. And I trust the sysops and other users will enjoy the fruit of my labors ... rather than causing them work deleting and changing them back!

[edit] My suspicions about sales related definitions

I have just edited cold calling and after checking the listed links, especially one of them, I have to talk about this. It is fairly clear to me that the definition of cold calling was subtlety manipulated to make cold calling seem too negative. This LINK was nothing more than a press release that directed people to a commercial promotion. Now, either the person editing the page was unlucky to find such a release or it was the same person.

The article I wrote about Perception of Sales as a Profession, on my USER page, explains why sales, telemarketing and cold calling can be unapprecaited and otherwise maligned. I am a sales professional and I dislike some of the calls I get at home but accept the calls I receive in business quite openly, unless they are conducted poorly. The point is it depends on who is doing it and how it is done.

Sales needs to be properly understood and if it cannot be put in the right light at place like Wikipedia, then it can't be any where, right? Isn't the whole purpose of this open source of intellect to get to and list the truth? Well, then, let us not malign one of the most important professions in the world, which is really the oldest!

I trust my efforts to correct what I see that is glaringly obvious though subtle to those without experience will be appreciated.

[edit] Speedy deletion of Sales training

A tag has been placed on Sales training requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Rudget.talk 17:55, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
