Purchased from agent for estate of photographer, purchase including right to release for free use. Intent to post on wikipedia specifically stated and allowed. Consolidated Catalina PB2B-1 NZ4053 KN-K was purchased by the New Zealand Government under lend lease and delivered to 5 Squadron RNZAF at Lauthala Bay, Fiji on 9 October 1944. This photograph is believed to have been taken at Mechanics Bay Auckland in February 1950. Rangitoto and the naval base at Devonport Naval Base are visible in the background, a Short Sandringham of TEAL in the foreground. Withdrawn from service in October 1953, KN-K was stored at Hobsonville until declared surplus to requirements in 1956, and sold for ₤175 to NZ Metal Smelters.
