[edit] Symphony Silicone Valley Guthrie Tone Poem

Woah, wish I could hear that! —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dannygutters (talkcontribs) 19:43, 5 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah I'd like to, the guthrie festival is in July right? My friend Mark Dvorak was applying to play this year too, he's excellent. I'll probably tag along if he goes. Dannygutters 18:39, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Woody Discography

Do you think we should create a seperate page for the discography? I think it's extensive enough to warrant. I could begin typing it up from the scans. On the main bio page maybe include the "selected disography" from the archive website?Dannygutters 18:45, 14 November 2007 (UTC)

Do you mean a separate article? If so....not now....maybe later. You did a fine job on the discography table, but I think it needs to be at the end of the article - after "posthumous honors", I think.Kmzundel 23:35, 14 November 2007 (UTC)
I started this Woody_Guthrie_discography article arranged by recording session and will hack away at it occasionally for a while, it'll take a bit of time to get everything on there from the source pages. So I'll not link it in the main article till later. If you have some time, I'm just filling in line by line from the scans. I really don't like the 'selected' discography cause it's all jumbled up by recording session and tracks are repeated etc, but hey better than nothing for now. I invision a link similar to the Woody guthrie festival in the main article, "see here for a more complete" kind of thing. --Dan G. 16:46, 15 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Woody FA review

Hey Karen, do you think Woody is ready for FA review? What is left? I've tried to beef up the later sections with information from the cray book tho the last part of his life is just so damn sad, ah well. Also I am slowly working though Guy's bibliography whenever I have time. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 14:55, 26 November 2007 (UTC)

Ok, I'll submit for peer review and see what that comes up with. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 18:39, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I'll do a style reivew as well before sumitting. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 19:01, 26 November 2007 (UTC)
  • Danny, "incapacated" is another blatant misspelling for incapacitated. (It means he was no longer able to use his arm.) I don't know how I missed it. Man, when I really started reading carefully, which I hadn't done earlier, there were tons of misspellings and run-on sentences. The article would have gotten killed if peer reviewed. I'm almost done - will continue today. Kmzundel (talk) 10:41, 27 November 2007 (UTC)
yes please go ahead and request a peer review. I was waiting for you to finish your scan. thanks!--Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 18:30, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
I think the automated review just checks for some easily scriptable things (i think this is in addition to someone peer reveiwing it), you can see the results here perhaps we should implement these--Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 16:13, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
I looked at the automated review. I think we're pretty much OK with the suggestions, don't you think? Kmzundel 16:23, 3 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Trail of Bad Edits

Hello- I understand that I can be making mistakes... please, can you be more specific about the trail of bad edits? If I don't know what is being done wrong, I won't know where to look in myself for improvement. --leahtwosaints (talk) 17:25, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] More On The Trail

Thanks for your kind suggestions. If it were you who wanted to add material to the Hot Band article, where would you look for material? Most of the interviews I have found on unlikely places like You Tube, and I'm afraid they won't be acceptable for use. As you know, I am new to wiki, so taking on a stub, at the least, might not have been the wisest move, though there are really some good reasons they deserve a page. I suppose I'll be at the library hitting the books for bibliographical data. Perhaps it's best that Lisa Fischer aside (that was sheer stupidity), I should help clean up some of the really poorly spelled and phrased articles. I made a couple of recent efforts.. OTOH, I noticed your interest in the Guthrie family, Woody in particular, and wonder if you are getting assistance from Arlo's family. I have had some contact with his wife and one of his daughters, and they appear approachable in gaining material if you have not done so already. --leahtwosaints (talk) 18:57, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] people named after woody

I'm not clear where these bits of information should go, probably not in the Songs about Woody section, I removed them from there, maybe drop them off this article and add them to their respective artists pages if they're not there? Their nice trivia but nothing totally necessary, What do you think? : --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 18:39, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

During the early 1970s, before adopting the name of Joe Strummer and founding The Clash, a young John Mellor began calling himself "Woody Mellor", derived, apparently, from Woody Guthrie.[1]

Bob Geldof's band, the Boomtown Rats, took their name from a page in Guthrie's autobiography, Bound for Glory.[2]

Trivia Sections are not good as per WP:Trivia, so yeah I think we should leave them off. These items are pretty old I remember them being in here a while ago, but yeah they can go on their respective pages. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 06:16, 1 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Woody Peer Review

So what's the deal with the peer review? Should we just wait around until someone gets a chance to review it? Or do we submit for FA at this point? Like you said, we implemented the automated suggestions where they were appropriate. I linked to the extended discography I typed from your scans, that took forever, I need to go through and look for typos, but it's nice if someone is interested in the recording sessions. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 16:21, 11 December 2007 (UTC)

Not sure how to proceed. Have you tried extending a personal request to any individuals asking if they can provide Peer Review? Kmzundel (talk) 17:37, 13 December 2007 (UTC)
hmm, I contacted someone on the volunteers list in the arts category for peer reviews and they said they weren't doing them right now, I dunno maybe try sombody in the history section? Or we should just submit for FA maybe? I'll try to get someone from the roots group to review the article, but they aren't very responsive. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) —Preceding comment was added at 18:05, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

I've left some detailed suggestions there. – Quadell (talk) (random) 20:36, 14 December 2007 (UTC)

Careful what you ask for I guess :), ha I'll start working on these too.--Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 04:12, 17 December 2007 (UTC)
Hey, I just cut the tributes section since it was suggested in the review as TRivia like, You're probably right tho it should be there, since I couldn't find a great place to put the other items. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 13:57, 18 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Woody Next Steps

Hey Karen, now that we've implemented all the peer review suggestions, is the next step applying for FA review? --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 21:04, 6 January 2008 (UTC)

Yep, I think asking to be considered for FA is the next step. Have you ever done it before? Do you want me to do it? Kmzundel (talk) 02:57, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah go ahead, thanks! --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 18:43, 7 January 2008 (UTC)
Will get to it tomorrow. Kmzundel (talk) 03:53, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
  • Dan, I nominated it for FA. Feel free to also add your name as a Nominator on the article's Talk page! (I hope I did it all correctly.) Kmzundel (talk) 15:09, 8 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Woody G FA of the Day

So when we get promoted to FA do we get entered into the queue for article of the day? or is that a seperate application process? --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 15:56, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

It's an entire separate procedure. And the procedure has been changed since I submitted Ellis Paul last year. I looked at the new procedure not long ago and it seemed complicated. But then again, every time I try to learn something new in Wikipedia, it seems complicated. :-) The thing that almost put me over the edge was figuring out how to so the sound sample boxes on the Ellis Paul page. When I figured it out and it actually worked I was thrilled. :-) Kmzundel (talk) 16:54, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Roots Project Userbox

I updated the Roots Project userbox since the generic one was kind of dull. You may want to use it instead!

--Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 15:09, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

Got it! Thanks! Kmzundel (talk) 19:15, 17 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Woody G FAC

yep a lot of nitpickey things, too bad those refrences are so hard to edit all at once. Anyway, i'll work on the citations, you don't have a copy of the Woody Cisco and Me book do you? I cited that one originally but i lent my copy out so i don't have one right now. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 17:59, 27 January 2008 (UTC)

No, I don't have that book.  :-( Kmzundel (talk) 18:34, 27 January 2008 (UTC)
I updated those Refrences in the chart to have the publisher first, if you see any cite web template calls we should change them to use your formatting with publisher first (manual formatting). I'm working in the Old Town School folklore center tomorrow night, they may have the woody, cisco and me book. These two reviewers are sticklers. ha.--Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 05:13, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
It looks like they want us to wiki link the dates in the retrieved on in the refrences as well. There's an example in the FACr --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 00:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
FACr is Featured Article Critera Review! ha. That seems like too much date linking to me but oh well.--Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 03:12, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Also, we didn't have that woody cisco and me book at the library, but I can get a used on off amazon for 14 cents. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 03:26, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
Sweet Deal. Congrats! --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 00:07, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Leadbelly

Hey Karen, any interest in helping me out on the Leadbelly article? I'd like to get it to GA status. It's got a lot of good info but could use some organization. It's probably harder to do than woody since there's less material and more conflicting stories on lead belly than on woody. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 16:15, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Maybe. What kind of help are you looking for? Adding content? Copy edit? Other? Kmzundel (talk) 01:21, 27 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Woody G Festival

Hey Karen, you're going to the festival this year right? I am considering it. ha. You are on the board right? Actually, you're on the media access right? Can you get me (or us?) a media pass to work on the wikipedia content at the festival? I'd love to come down and do a bunch of fact checking on the discography and bio and generally improve the guthrie pages. --Dannygutters (talk · contribs) 19:09, 20 May 2008 (UTC)

Dan, I'll e-mail you. Kmzundel (talk) 01:16, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
