Originally, 96.9 FM was KMEO broadcasting Easy Listening music programming. In the late 1980’s, the format evolved into an Adult Contemporary music format.

In 1991, the format was changed to Oldies along with a change of call letters to KPSN. The station was known as “Sunny 97”.

In 1994, the format was changed to Classic Hits along with a change of call letters to KHTC. The station was known as “K-Hits”.

In 1997, the station was re-branded retaining its Classic Hits format as “96.9 The Eagle. A change of call letters to KGLQ was adopted to reflect this change.

In 1998, it adopted its current format, Hot Adult Contemporary as KMXP. The station was re-branded to its current branding known as “Mix 96.9”.
