KMJM-FM is an FM radio station licensed to Columbia, Illinois, USA better known as "Majic 104.9". The station airs an Urban Adult Contemporary format, and has been the top-rated station in St. Louis among African American listeners for over two decades.
[edit] History
KMJM was originally located at 107.7 MHz in St. Louis, and commonly known as "Majic 108". In 1997, former owner Jacor Broadcasting moved the station to 104.9, which had previously been Christian music station WCBW. They did this in order to make way for a new Top-40 station KSLZ "Z 107.7" at the more powerful frequency that Majic was on, thus "Majic 105" (later "104.9"). And after sister station KATZ relocated to the FM dial as an Urban Contemporary station in 1999, KMJM modified its Urban format to cater to the African-American adult demographics at that very time. At the current time, KMJM competes with rival WFUN and hip hop stations KATZ and WHHL.
Before WFUN altered its format from Mainstream Urban to Urban AC, KMJM was the home to the "Tom Joyner Morning Show" before moving to its rival. It now carries the Steve Harvey Morning Show, which first aired in the St. Louis market on sister Urban station KATZ-FM. Former morning personality Tony Scott is now in PM Drive, along with his co-host, Tammie Holland.
