Non-free / fair use media rationale for KMFDM | |
---|---|
Description |
Album cover for the KMFDM album 84-86 |
Source |
Derived from a scan of the album cover (creator of this digital version is irrelevant as the copyright in all equivalent images is still held by the same party). Copyright held by the record company or the artist. Claimed as fair use in either case. |
Article | |
Portion used |
Entire front cover, but does not include back cover, spines, inside artwork/material from booklet, media label, or any other inserts. |
Low resolution? |
Is only as much resolution as necessary to clearly identify and show the style of artwork used for the article; not enough to be used for piracy. |
Purpose of use |
Illustrates the appearance of the album and identifies it by recognized features. |
Replaceable? |
No free equivalent can equal this image (any would be derivative of this artwork) |
Other information | The true meaning of KMFDM is a source of speculation and urban myth. While several English phrases have been mis-attributed to the band, KMFDM is actually an initialism for the nonsensical German phrase "Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid". The linguistically correct usage of this phrase would be "Kein Mitleid Für Die Mehrheit", however, the word-reversal is intentional. The cover for the 84-86 compilation album provides wikipedia with an official KMFDM release documenting the true phrasing of KMFDM's extended name, and thus is beneficial to the KMFDM article. Using the image in this manner does not replace the original market role of the copyrighted image. |
