The Kasturba Medical College International Center (KMCIC) was born out of an agreement between the Manipal University (formerly known as Manipal Academy of Higher Education) and the American University of Antigua College of Medicine.

The KMC International Center was established in October, 2005 with a view to train undergraduate medical students in the Basic Sciences of the medical curriculum and make them competent to face the USMLE Step 1. The curriculum provides a strong Basic Science foundation for the students to build their clinical learning.

The KMCIC offers a Pre-BSc program in health sciences for 2 semesters and a Bsc program in Basic Health Sciences for 6 semesters. Following the successful completion of this program at KMCIC, Manipal, the students proceed to Miami, Florida for a Semester of review of all the subjects and preparation for the Step 1 examination. Students take the Step 1 examination at the end of this Semester, following which, they enroll for clinical rotations at various teaching hospitals in the USA.

The faculty of KMCIC are eminently qualified in their respective subjects. All faculty are committed to giving their best for the students and are available to provide whatever assistance is required by the students. Students can make appointments with faculty to discuss their questions during working hours. A mentorship program is in place to ensure that each student is properly guided in all aspects of his/ her academic life in Manipal.

The KMC International Center is located on the ground floor of Dr.TMA Pai Research Center. The multi purpose and Skills laboratories, Wi-fi enabled on-line examination centers are on the third floor of the same building.

[edit] Lecture Halls

Each batch is provided with a centrally air-conditioned lecture hall fully equipped with computer, LCD projector and overhead projector. All classrooms are WAP enabled, offering the student access to the internet.

[edit] Laboratories

The state-of-the-art air-conditioned, fully equipped laboratories for the Science subjects serve to provide hands-on experience for the students in all relevant subjects. The Dissection Hall provides the ideal environment for the study of the human body. The Clinical Skills Laboratory with its numerous mannequins provides the opportunity for the students to hone their clinical skills before handling live patients.

[edit] Online Examination Center

All examinations at KMCIC are conducted online. The questions are arranged in MCQ (multiple choice questions) format. This provides the student with ample opportunity to train himself well for the USMLE.

[edit] Sports, Culture and recreation

Students of KMCIC utilize all the common facilities for sports, exercise and recreation offered by MAHE. Most of the hostels are equipped with gymnasiums and reading rooms. In addition, a common gymnasium, swimming pool, badminton, tennis and basketball courts, and track, hockey and football fields are available under the supervision of the MAHE Physical Director. Students can participate in regular cultural programs conducted by the university and in inter-batch and intercollegiate competitions conducted once a year.

The Health Sciences Library of Manipal Academy of Higher Education (MAHE) is a modern facility extending over 150,000 square feet on six floors, and can accommodate 1300 users at a time. The library is open from 8.30 a.m. to 11.30 p.m. on all week days. A group study area, faculty lounge, audio-visual room, computer lab, study cubicles and a private study area have been provided in the library. Facilities like photocopying, fax, internet kiosk, scanning, online journals and CDs have also been provided. Access to MEDLINE, Cochrane library, Proquest Medical library and Delnet Online is provided to all students.
