[edit] Conflict of interest

The page "Klaus Ebner" should not be deleted. It is information about the Austrian writer Klaus Ebner.

I am this writer myself. Given information is also available from my books as well as from internet pages. Some of them are indicated within the article, among them the page of the Austrian Writer's Association Grazer Autorenversammlung, which does also hold my personal information.

Please review Wikipedia's guidelines on Spam, specifically the section labeled How Not To Be a Spammer -- KingNewbs (talk) 20:22, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
Even more specifically, to the part that says "Don't make a new article for your own product or Web site. Most often, when a person creates a new article describing his or her own work, it's because the work is not yet well-known enough to have attracted anyone else's attention, much less verifiable sources. Articles of this sort are usually deleted. Wikipedia does indeed have articles about popular products and Web sites, but it is not acceptable to use Wikipedia to popularize them." -- KingNewbs (talk) 20:23, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
This does not seem to me to be a candidate for speedy deletion. It does need editing and cleanup. Angus McLellan (Talk) 21:40, 18 December 2007 (UTC)
For the above reasons noted, I have tagged the article for conflict of interest, to clean up the tone, to wikify it by linking it to other articles, and as an orphan to link other articles to it. "I don't like spam!" said the bearded lady, so I'm tagging and running. Bearian (talk) 18:21, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Don't really see the COI issue. There are many sources given, and I know that organizations like the mentioned IG Autorinnen Autoren and the Grazer Autorenversammlung are some of the most important writers' associations in Austria. Even though the contributor seems to be author himself, the article does not have a publicitarian character. Irina Walter (talk) 22:54, 20 December 2007 (UTC)

Please read WP:COI and WP:SPAM. The user admits he is the subject and has made over a dozen edits! Bearian (talk) 01:59, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

Gentlemen, I suggest to remove the COI remark. I read the book "Lose" and I'm following the literary traces of K. Ebner for several time. I know a multitude of minor publications in literary magazines and anthologies in Germany and Austria, and in major libraries in Austria and Germany there is even more, but the latter seems to be youth works. I can confirm that the data on this page is correct. The links and sources are easy to follow (maybe not in the US, I admit; I am Germany based so it is easy for me to find the data) and do also confirm the information. Torsten Wittmann (Karlsruhe) (talk) 12:03, 22 December 2007 (UTC)

Having been edited by several other users, I feel the COI tag was properly removed, as most of the content is not by the subject himself. Bearian (talk) 17:26, 28 December 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Books about software

What I'd like to ask the community: Klaus Ebner has also published several IT books (about office software, networking and DTP). Shouldn't they be included into this page? However, in the German Wiki, they don't want it, because the article is more about literature, and they feel that IT books would be like advertising. What do you think? Should these other books be included, under its own subtitle, or not? Irina Walter (talk) 15:24, 30 December 2007 (UTC)

No software books in this article. This article is about Austrian literature and not computer stuff. D. Bogdan V. (talk) 16:25, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Erroneous book entry

To the editors: Please take out the book entry Islamischer Fundamentalismus in der EU. This is not a literary work, but a university paper. It is true that it has been published but since this is no literary essay, it should not be mentioned here. Please apply the same rules as for all other published university papers and computer books - none of them is mentioned. Thank you.

[edit] Failed GAC comments

Hello, I have reviewed this article for Good Article status. Based on the GA criteria, I have decided to fail the nomination at this time. The prose is poor in places and needs to be looked over by a native speaker of English. Also, there is simply not enough information regarding Ebner, his work and his literary significance in order for the article to be considered broad in its coverage. Here are some suggestions for future improvement:

  • Refs go after punctuation, not before it.
  • Nothing is said of Ebner's early life. Where is he from? What did his parents do? When/why did he begin writing? Does he have any siblings?
  • Since graduation from school, Klaus Ebner has written short prose, poetry and radio plays. Usually he published them in literary and cultural magazines. This is confusing. The short prose, poetry and radio plays were published in what literary and cultural magazines? When?
  • he went to Andorra in 2007 and put down an essay about the country in the Pyrenees: what does "put down" mean? He wrote?
  • The poem in the table is awkward and at the moment provides little context. What is needed is an entire section devoted to literary style with examples of his work as well. It's not even stated what genre he writes or what examples of his major works are. Be specific!
  • His literary significance is hinted at, mainly because of the number of accolades he has received, but nothing is mentioned about what literary critics say of his work.
  • Here are the sections that I think should be considered for research and inclusion:
    • Early life
    • Career
    • Literary style
    • Critical reception
    • Awards and accomplishments

I hope that the contributors here will continue to improve the article over time, especially since Ebner seems an interesting fellow. If you have any questions regarding my suggestions/comments, feel free to contact me. Best of luck, María (habla conmigo) 17:56, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] I'm not sure.....

I'm not sure if the Quotes in the Critical Interpetation sould be inluded, they are all from the same source....I'm not sure if thats what we're looking for here....But I'm not experianced enough to make those kind of judgments so could we possibly get someone more experianced in these matters in here? [edit] Linguistic Review

This article passes my linguistic standards, but just to be sure, I think a review from another editor would be nice. Mr. GreenHit Me UpUserboxes 15:14, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Notes from copy-edit

I've completed a thorough copy-edit of the article as it stands thus far, but much work remains to be done. Some further suggestions/comments:

  • The references need to be formatted consistently per WP:CITE. Information from websites is missing (publisher info, access date, etc), "Cf" and "In:" are not necessary as the citation speaks for itself, and some items should be removed from the refs and put into the prose. For an example as to the last point, Ebner wrote a short theater play at the age of twelve and rehearsed it with his comrades at school. However, the play was never performed.: why is this not in the article itself?
  • The "Style of writing" section again does not have many sources other than the works themselves. This is interpretation and is original research. More refs are needed from reliable, third party sources. Critical reviews like Paul C. Jezek's are especially needed.
  • I had little idea about what "At the International Poetry Prize Nosside, he was mentioned with a poem in German, accompanied by its English translation" was denoting, so please fix my "fix" if it's wrong. What year did this take place? What does "mentioned with a poem" mean?
  • I'm not sure I understand Ebner's legacy yet. What is he known for? He seems a literary jack of all trades. What impact has he made on Austrian literature? Has anyone been influenced by him yet?
  • What purpose does "Additional sources" serve? "Further reading" is the term most often used that could be used for source material for readers.

I haven't much time available, so I don't know if/when I would be able to review this article again. I hope that the copy-editing and comments have helped and best of luck in improving this article. María (habla conmigo) 16:54, 9 June 2008 (UTC)
