The station was assigned the KBHJ call letters on 1998-07-17. On 2000-05-26, the station changed its call sign to the current KJAX.[2]

In March 2007, Denver-based Blue Point Media announced that it was set to merge with KJAX owner Chaparral Broadcasting Inc.[3] Chaparral Broadcasting also owns three other radio stations in Wyoming as well as three stations in Idaho.
