Can't do it. :-(

[edit] Urdu

Thank you for adding vowels with macrons on Hindi and other words; adding the superscripted "h" for aspiration on the Urdu page. Could you please do the same for the Hindustani page? Thank you in advance. Anupam 00:35, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

Thank you once again for rendering the current text on the Hindustani page in IPA and adding Hindi and Urdu scripts as well. I would appreciate if you would do the same for the Hindustani grammar page as well. A few of the tables are lacking the Urdu script although most have them. Some Urdu translations are also missing. Thanks in advance for your help. Khuda Hafiz. Anupam 03:40, 13 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pathan

I originally thought it was पतान but according to User:Lostintherush, it is पठान. I changed it to that in the Pashtun page.

[edit] Macrons

Thank you for your contributions to the Nasta'liq article. It might be advisable to keep the normal spelling for words that are well-established in the English language, such as Iran, Pakistan, and Islam. Shukria. –jonsafari 18:50, 18 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Roman Urdu

An anonymous individual on the Roman Urdu Talk Page has requested a Roman Urdu Alphabet Table. Would you be interested in making a table for the Roman Urdu page showing the Roman Script, Nastaliq Script, and Devanagari Script side by side in that order? Please let me know. Thanks for your help. Khuda Hafiz. Anupam 02:29, 24 July 2006 (UTC)

I'd love to! Thanks!--Kitabparast 05:00, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Salaam! Thanks again for your help. It is very much appreciated. I hope you enjoy doing this. Khuda Hafiz. Anupam 22:17, 24 July 2006 (UTC)
Fayyazabbas has already created a Roman Urdu alphabet table. However, it still needs the Devanagari Script and some possible revision. I informed him that you would do this. Could you please make these additions? Also the "Examples" section (table) needs to be put in the order of Roman Urdu, Nasta'liq, Devanagari, English Translation, and then the Notes. Could you please add the Devanagari to this and change the order to fit this article? Please let me know. Thank you very much again for your help! Khuda Hafiz. Anupam 19:04, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hindi-Urdu grammar

It's good to know you are back! The Hindustani grammar article which you helped script in Nastaliq and added macrons to is now being merged into Hindi-Urdu grammar as it is a more updated and accurated article (See Talk). Could you please add the macrons and Nastaliq script in the updated article: Hindi-Urdu grammar? I would very much appreciate this. Also, do you think you will be able to add the Devanagari to the Roman Urdu page (Alphabet Table). Please let me know. I am looking forward to hearing from you soon. Khuda Hafiz. Anupam 01:48, 9 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hindustani grammar

It is awful and atrocious that you have made some Calcutta or whatever transliteration in Hindustani grammar page. Please revert all pronunciation to IPA. It is wikipolicy to use IPA, and what you use has no proper standard backing it. Further, it was my condition for merger that transliterations would be in IPA. Cygnus_hansa 13:23, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Advice

Bhai Saheb, I do not think it was very polite for him to reprimand you like that. If there is any blame, it should go to me. I would recommend that you just add the Nasta'liq script to the article. I would not worry about the IPA/transliteration. I would leave the IPA that was already on the site before you added the Nasta'liq script. As you said Cygnus_hansa can add the IPA where it is missing. You have been a really nice and helpful individual to me ever since you started using Wikipedia. I really appreciate your ebullience in your edits. Your contributions are a great asset to Wikipedia. I hope you can still add the Nasta'liq script to the Hindi-Urdu grammar article and will also add Devanagari to the Roman Urdu alphabet table. Yours in Christ Jesus, Khuda hafiz, Anupam 22:35, 10 August 2006 (UTC)

You are very welcome! Thanks again for willing to do this. It is a great help and your contributions are very much appreciated. I hope you had a nice time in Pakistan. Someday, I hope I can go there as well. Thanks again for your help. Khuda Hafiz. Anupam 22:23, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Your transciption methods

I appreciate you great efforts at transliteration, but I really don't think that the use of superscript h's (and maybe n's) should be used on Hindi and Urdu, because of the following reasons-

  • They are not used in any major transliteration system (IPA is phonetic only)
  • "h" in aspirated consonants does not need to be superscript in order to be pronounced correctly
  • It's far simpler to avoid superscript "h"s
  • There are too many ways of transliterating Hindi's numerous "n"s, and we should stick to a prescribed method (like IAST or National Library at Calcutta romanization)

Please consider this request, and continue transliterating! Bahut bahut shukria. --Basawala 18:30, 14 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] IPA

Hey, Kitabparast, I really don't think you should revert Hindi-Urdu grammar to IPA until we come up with a consensus on the talk page. Thanks! Khuda hafiz, --Basawala 01:12, 16 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Cygnus_hansa

From the his contributions, even his edits far back seem to be even arrogantly pro-Hindi and pro-Hindu. His edits sometimes are pretty controversial it seems, and he has made many biased edits. Nevertheless, he hasn't broken any Wikipedia policy that I know of (but then I never read those policy articles anyways). By the way, do you know what happened to Jdas07? Both his talk page and his user page seem to have deleted. Thanks, and Khudahafiz! --Basawala 21:29, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

Actually, it seems like the comment that Cygnus_hansa (User:Magicalsaumy) had made on your talk page violates the Civilty policy, since they are offensive. You are allowed to remove those comments, from what it says here (it's a section under the Civility page). Khuda hafiz, --Basawala 21:40, 18 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Friendly warning

Kitabparast and Basawala, I request you both to study WP:NPA and WP:CIVIL. Questioning and discussing about other users like this is intensely disrespectful and completely inappropriate, no matter what the disputes between you are. Such conversations can and mostly will inflame content disputes, which disrupt Wikipedia. Rama's arrow 13:11, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

I'm glad you understand my motive in warning you - from your response, I can judge that you will be only too happy to resolve this fast. However the problem is evident - "modus operandi?" Cygnus Hansa nor anybody else here is a criminal - you make it sound like he is. I'm definitely not saying that he's exempt from blame.
I felt a need to warn you, becoz having a dispute is not unusual, but talking about it like this is particularly not good, IMO. If you have problems with Cygnus Hansa, you should talk to him straight, and ask for more experienced editors to mediate in a 3-way dialogue. From what I know, he's a reasonable user - I'm sure you can work this out with him in a civil and reasonable fashion. Rama's arrow 20:19, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
Unfortunately, "modus operandi" is indeed a judgmental word to use, especially here. I'm not trying to "excorciate" you - you would not have been correct in reporting Magicalsaumy becoz this dispute is too nascent. My point is, such a discussion between you and Basawala is uncivil by itself, as it seems you are harbouring negative feelings towards Magicalsaumy. Rama's arrow 22:20, 20 August 2006 (UTC)
No problem - just misunderstandings. Happy editing, and lemme know if I can be of assistance. Rama's arrow 22:41, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] "Thainkyuu verii mach"

Thanks! I was going to do it in English, but then I decided to do it in Devanagari. Is it correct, the way I spelled it? I'm not sure, since I'm only learning Urdu and Hindi. Khuda hafiz, Mar de Sin Speak up! 22:48, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks!

Bahi saheb, thank you very much for the message. I was very happy to see that you were concerned about me. I was gone because I had a couple more accounts open which I was using on the Pashtun article. An administrator told me that they were illegal to have on Wikipedia (they are called sockpuppets here). I had those all deleted and the administrator Blnguyen was very understanding and helpful. He is going to help me work things out. I will be back on soon to make my regular edits. I think you have done a wonderful job with the Hindi-Urdu grammar article. It's nice to see you working with Basawala on these projects. He is very knowledgeable in linguistics and Hindi/Urdu. I also support your transliteration methods very much (I personally cannot read IPA and feel the transliteration is the best thing for most individuals). I should be back soon. I will let you know. Keep up the great work! May God bless you abundantly. Yours in Christ Jesus, Khuda Hafiz. Anupam 21:14, 21 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Spelling help

آداب عرض ہے! Do you happen to know how to spell "Umrao" as in "Umrao Jaan", in Urdu? جدا خافظ --Mar de Sin Speak up! 17:46, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

Thanks! I didn't know which way to spell it, since the Hindi was उमराव (umarāv), which utterly confused me. Mar de Sin Speak up! 20:41, 23 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Urdu alphabet

Would you be interested in helping me in organizing and expanding the Urdu alphabet article? I'm planning to add new sections on the alif madd آ, the badi ye ۓ, and and explanation on the different uses of choti and badi he. Also, I would like to reorganize the first 2 charts on the article. I doubt I could do it all, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Of course, if you are busy, don't feel pressured to doing this, as Wikipedia work can be quite difficult. Thank you! --Mar de Sin Speak up! 20:03, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I hope the tables could be Urdu letter, then transcription, then IPA. It would be great if you could help me. Thanks! Mar de Sin Speak up! 20:25, 26 August 2006 (UTC)
Actually, I'm not so sure on the tables. I'll try to figure out a way to including the letter name too. But please help me create new sections on some of the letters above, if you have time. Thanks, Mar de Sin Speak up! 20:27, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Roman Urdu

Salaam Kitabparast! Aaap ne bahut acha kaam keya! I think you did a great job fixing the Roman_Urdu#Examples section and adding the Devanagari and Nasta'liq for the Roman_Urdu#Sample_Texts. All that is left for the article is adding Devanagari to the Roman_Urdu#Writing_System table and I am confident that you will do a great job on this as well. I am wondering if you had a copy of the Roman Urdu Bible (B.S.I. Kita'b I Muqaddas. Bangalore: The Bible Society of India, 1994. ISBN 81-221-3230-8.) This is what I used to write Zabur 23 for the sample text. Since this format of Roman Urdu has been around for a long time, I am wondering if we can use this standard for the rest of the article, since many will probably be familiar with this. Please let me know what you think of this. Also, you might be interested in looking at Hindustani orthography (recently created) and Hindustani (Hindi-Urdu) word etymology. Thanks again for your help. Yours in Christ Jesus, Khuda Hafiz. Anupam 20:42, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hindustani related articles

Salaam Kitabparast! Khuda aap ke bhi saath raho. Actually, I just took at look at the Roman Urdu article talk page. Fayyaz Abbas has returned and wants to discuss the transcription systems with us. Will you also still be able to add Devanagari to the Roman Urdu Alphabet Table? Also, I still need your help in transliteration for the bottom of the Hindi-Urdu grammar article. I think you have done a great job with the transliteration so far. Do you think it would be possible for you to finish it? Thanks again Kitabparast! I look forward to hearing from you soon. Yours in Christ Jesus, Khuda Hafiz, Anupam 03:19, 30 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Is your work on Roman Urdu a standard?

I don't see standardization in the work, but I am keen to know whether there is a standard for Roman Urdu. I was born and bred in Pakistan and my mother tongue is Urdu. Of what depresses me the most is that the Nastaliq or the Persio-Arabic script has not reached a maturer level in the computing world and it seems we are destined to always retort to an alternative.

If what you are displaying in the table is not standard, I think we should all settle for a standard here, until this work remains a work of pure imagination. I loved the work you guys have done on the Roman Urdu page. I have even started e-mailing and documenting things in the Romand script as was used from the Kitab-e-Muqadas (The Bible). Being a Christian, I read that Zabur all the time and it was good to stare at the first ever works of Roman Urdu emerging from the Bible. If you need help, I'd be more than welcome to help. - Arun Reginald 04:18, 1 November 2006 (UTC)

Salaam-e khudavand aap ke sath ho! I hope you have been very well Kitabparast. I haven't seen you around in a while but have noticed your wonderful contributions to Islam related articles. Keep up the great work! Might I request that you revise the Devanagari to the Writing System section of the article. I would really appreciate if you could do so. Your edits to the page were very well done and are an integral part of the article. Please let me know if you could do this. Thanks in advance Kitabparast! May God continue to bless you. [edit] Category:American liberals

  • Looking on your userpage I see that you are a fellow Republican. Even though there is a category labeling "American conservatives", the category labeling "American liberals" is up for deletion. This is obviously by liberals who don't want the bias pov of liberal celebrities and public figures to be known. So they don't want them categorized as what they are...liberals. I'm asking you to go to "Category:American liberals" follow the link to the nomination page and please vote to keep the category. -- AmeriCan 17:44, 21 January 2007 (UTC)
