Kitaibaraki (北茨城市 Kitaibaraki-shi?) is a city located on the Pacific Ocean in Ibaraki, Japan, between the cities of Hitachi and Iwaki.

As of 2003, the city has an estimated population of 50,778 and the density of 272.28 persons per km². The total area is 186.49 km².

The city was founded on March 31, 1956.

Kitaibaraki is located on the Joban Line and Joban Expressway, both of which connect it to Tokyo, Mito and Iwaki. The closest airport is Fukushima Airport.
