Kisii School

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kisii School is a famous and old secondary school in the Gusii or Kisii hills in Kenya. It was started in 1911 by the Young Kavirondo Association. Alliance High School and Kakamega Boys School are the only two other schools started by the association. They are referred to as "former G.A.S schools" (government association schools).

[edit] The School

The school has had a strong connection to the Musa Nyandusi family, a Senior Chief during the colonial era. This was the most powerful position akin to a king answerable only to the colonial authority with minimal supervision. The school has produced the likes of Simeon Nyachae, a son of Musa. Currently the school is considered a premier learning institution in the country that can give schools of comparable calibre a run for their money in the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education exams as witnessed in 2005 when the school did very well.

Strive For Excellence

[edit] Soccer giant

Under the leadership of Joseph Kinaro, a former principal, Kisii school emerged as the best soccer school teams in the 90's. The record they set can only be rivaled by Kakamega Boys High School. They won three consecutive national championships between 1996 and 1999. Most of the team members have played for the national team, and some are playing professional football in Europe and Asia.

[edit] Controversies

Cheating accusations levelled against the school, a dark mark in its otherwise brilliant academic history.

[edit] Notable allumni

The school's success in the future might get a big boost from the old boys some of whom live in Europe and U.S.A.
