Kishlak (qishlaq, qishloq, qishlak) is a rural settlement of semi-nomadis Turkic peoples of Central Asia (Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan), in Afghanistan, and in other places. The meaning of the term is "wintering place" (kışlak) in Turkic languages. [1]

Traditionally a clay/mud fence (dewal, duval) surrounds a kishlak.

The term may be seen in the toponyms, such as Afgan-Kishlak (Uzbekistan), Yangi-Kishlak (Turkmenistan), Isak-Kishlak (Azerbaijan).
