[edit] History and Future

KIS was opened in 1998 as Kesinee International School, offering Kindergarten and Primary education, with the IB Primary Years Programme.

In 2003, the school rebranded from Kesinee International school to KIS, and embarked on its secondary school expansion plan, introducing the IB Middle Years Programme, along with a brand new secondary school facility built specifically to suit the requirements of both the MYP and the IB Diploma programme. The library, science laboratories, IT facilities, class rooms, study rooms and conference areas are all geared towards facilitating academic excellence in both programmes.

The school currently has just under 400 students ranging from 2 ½ - 16 years of age with a student/teacher ratio of 8:1. By 2009, when the school is operating the IB Diploma programme, the capacity will stand at approximately 650 students.

[edit] The KIS Community

KIS describes its community as “dedicated teachers, supportive parents, involved administration staff and enthusiastic students working together in support of student succss.” KIS uses its community to help instill values, not only about education but also about personal development. The content of the internationally-based curriculum is linked and integrated into every part of students’ lives making learning meaningful and fulfilling, whilst fuelling their desire to learn and understand more.

Teachers at KIS are all native English speakers, qualified to degree level and recruited, where possible, with IB experience. Training, both internal and external is given through a progressive, professional development programme. Language diversity and cultural harmony is all part of the faculty mix, reflecting the International curriculum and philosophies of both the IBO and of KIS International School.

Head of School, Ms. Sally Holloway, is an elected representative on the IBO Regional Heads Representative Committee (RHRC) for Asia Pacific. As a member of the RHRC, Ms. Holloway represents the needs of the IBO schools in the region and proposes and assists in the development and evaluation of IBO policies.

Parents are encouraged to be part of the school community and the KIS Parents Association (KISPA) is just one way dedicated parents help bring the KIS community together to support and enhance student success. The KISPA committee is elected once a year and the president is also part of the school board of advisors. They meet with the Head of School at least once a term.

KIS takes part in TISAC (Thailand International Schools Activities Conference) and through an active sports schedule, engages in friendly competition with a group of international schools in Bangkok as well as participating in other activities provided by the organization.
