[edit] Enrollment
Kirksville High School currently enrolls approximately 850 students and boasts a staff of 74 teachers, paras and administrators[1]. Kirksville Middle School, formerly Kirksville Junior High, feeds into Kirksville High School. In years past, the school has enrolled closer to 500 students, but due in part to a large surge of freshmen, the enrollment numbers are much higher than in years past.
[edit] District
Kirksville High School is a part of the Kirksville R-III School District and is the only public high school in that district.
[edit] Traditions
Kirksville High School has had a number of traditions in the past; however, the continuing practice of some of those traditions is currently questioned.
[edit] The Senior Tile
The Senior Tile was a donation to the school by a former class, and is a 2' by 2' square floor tile with a tiger pictured on it. Tradition states that only Seniors may step on the tile and Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors are to show respect to the tile according to oral history, the reverence of the tile by all classes has decreased in recent years.
[edit] The Seniors' Last Day of School
The last day of school for Seniors typically occurs 2 weeks before the end of the school year. On the last day of school the seniors participate in several traditions that have been met with increasing resistance from the facility. For instance, tradition states that on the last day of school for the Senior Class that Seniors block off the parking lot adjacent to both the High School and the Kirksville Area Technical School, or Vo-Tech. Other lesser traditions include: a Senior Skip day, a Senior Bar-B-Que in the parking lot, Senior Pranks, and Tagging various places around the campus with the year of the graduating class.
[edit] Academic Team
The Academic Team, or "Quiz Bowl", is one of the most successful, if unknown, teams at Kirksville High School. The team currently is undefeated outside of tournament play, and has suffered 3 losses in tournaments. Of those losses, one was to Savannah High School, one of the chief rivals of Kirksville's Academic Team. The team has made it to the state competition five times: 1997, 2000, 2001, 2004, and 2006. The team is coached by Myra Collins.
[edit] Clubs
Kirksville High School (KHS) sports a very large and diverse roster of clubs and organizations.
[edit] Model United Nations
Model United Nations is sponsored by Chris Best. In years past they have had several members win awards from various conferences. The Club operates on the standard rules of Model U.N.
[edit] Film Club
Film Club meets weekly, while watching a movie, on average, biweekly. This club is also sponsored by Mr. Best.
