Kirishi

Coordinates: 59°27′N, 32°00′E Kirishi (Russian: Кириши) is a town in Leningrad Oblast, Russia, situated on the right bank of the Volkhov River, 115 km south-east of St. Petersburg. Population: 55,400 (2005 est.), 55,634 (2002 Census).

The settlement of Kirishi was first documentally mentioned in 1693. It was completely destroyed in 1943 during the World War II. In 1960, it was rebuilt, and the Kirishi oil refinery was constructed. Town status granted in 1965.

The name of the town originates from the Kirisha River (previously Kiresha), a tributary of the Volkhov River.
