[edit] Image Tagging Image:Cuba_mo.JPG

Thanks for uploading Image:Cuba_mo.JPG. I notice the image page currently doesn't specify who created the image, so the copyright status is therefore unclear. If you have not created the image yourself then you need to argue that we have the right to use the image on Wikipedia (see copyright tagging below). If you have not created the image yourself then you should also specify where you found it, i.e., in most cases link to the website where you got it, and the terms of use for content from that page.

If the image also doesn't have a copyright tag then you must also add one. If you created/took the picture then you can use {{GFDL}} to release it under the GFDL. If you can claim fair use use {{Non-free fair use in|article name}} or {{fairuse}}. See Wikipedia:Image copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other images, please check that you have specified their source and copyright tagged them, too. You can find a list of image pages you have edited by going to "Your contributions" from your user page and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any unsourced and untagged images will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thanks so much. [edit] Re: Sockpuppet

As per your comment on this page, it is safe to assume that you believe these users are sockpuppets. I totally agree with you. I don't want them here ruining this descussion. I have reported them to WP:CHECK, and their subheading can be viewed by clicking here. I would appreciate it if you made a short comment on your opinion, as I would like to get this over with as soon as possible. Note: I'm not forcing you to do this; do it out of your own free will if you deem it necessary. Thanks. --Jared [T]/[+] 18:14, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

I appreciate your comment on the said page. Thank you! --Jared [T]/[+] 19:26, 2 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Great Britain

Ok, I trust your opinion if you yourself looked it up on the IOC site. On every Wikipedia page, I've see for the recent games, it says GB+NI; take a look at this excerp from Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 2000 Summer Olympics:

The United Kingdom competed as Great Britain and Northern Ireland at the 2000 Summer Olympics in Sydney and was commonly referred to as Great Britain.

And it says that on more pages than one. I do think that you are mistaken, and that maybe just because you saw "GB" on the IOC's table doesn't mean that is what they refer to it as. I hope you see where I'm coming from. I won't revert you (yet), but I hope you do what's right and change it to what it's supposed to be (whatever it is). --Jared [T]/[+] 13:12, 7 March 2006 (UTC)

The "evidence" you just provided is from a Wikipedia article though. You can't use Wikipedia as an official source, or even a dependable source, as we both know it can be fallacious. I'm getting my information from olympic.org. They call it "Great Britain" everywhere on the site; on every single medal count page (link), and on other pages as well. On the official site of the British Olympic Association, they call themselves "team GB" (link). If you can find an official source stating that their official Olympic name is "Great Britain and Northern Ireland," then I might believe you, but as of right now, all of the evidence from official sources seems to point towards "Great Britain." Well frankly I don't care what the medals pages say...Great Britain is GB+NI is UK. Its all the same, but if I do find a source I will tell you. Because I still think its my way. I know WP articles are unreliable, i just thuink that if its on every single one, its saying something. Jared 18:05, 7 March 2006 (UTC)
I only just noticed that King nothing 2 reverted a correction of mine along the same lines. Sadly, this argument has been had before. The official name of the competing team is definitely Great Britain and Northern Ireland. If you don't believe me, see [1], [2], [3], [4], or contact the BOA, as I have (I could copy and paste their response to my email, if it would help). By all accounts, Great Britain is shorthand, incorrect, and misleading, hence unencyclopaedic. Bastin8 19:31, 15 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Urgent!

King, please go to this page ASAP, as the Olympic conventions pages have been nominated for deletion! I trust that you like them a lot and from your edits, you are not willing to lose all of the work you put in. I urge you to vote "Keep", as 3 weeks of work are about to go down the drain! Thanks. (and tell other active contributors.) --Jared [T]/[+] 20:32, 8 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Olympic conventions debate

Hi all! The debate on Olympic conventions has been moved and is now under the auspices of WikiProject Sports Olympics/Olympic conventions. We are now trying to decide what to do with all of the data that has been collected and start some sort of "governance". If you'd like to take part in this discussion, feel free to Wikipedia_talk:WikiProject_Sports_Olympics#Ground_rules (the WikiProject talk page). We would appreciate your help! --J@red [T]/[+] 20:00, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free image (Image:Chip reese.JPG)

Thanks for uploading Image:Chip reese.JPG. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Aksibot 12:15, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
