[edit] Godzilla template?

To Sean Black's question on why the Godzilla template was on this page. Whether it belongs here or not, I'm not sure. My theories for its inclusion (besides its being part of the Toho kaiju genre) are:

  1. The film is listed on the Godzilla template (under "Tie-in films")
  2. The King Kong character appeared in King Kong vs. Godzilla, and the same crew working on this film links it to that film. (Was it the same Kong suit also? I think I've heard it was, but would have to check sources)
  3. The Gorosaurus character later appears in the Godzilla films Destroy All Monsters and Godzilla's Revenge.

Personally, I lean towards keeping the template, but I can see the reasoning either way. Any other opinions? -- Rizzleboffin 22:22, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

This film does not feature Godzilla, and the connections mentioned are strictly superificial; this film should probably not be on the Godzilla template in the first place, again, because the connections are, again, strictly superificial. There is no King King template on, for example, Godzilla vs. Megalon, to use your logic in reverse. There's simply no reason for it to be there.--SB | T 22:40, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
Well, none of the "Tie-in" films on the "Godzilla franchise" template feature Godzilla. They feature characters who (sometimes, but not always-- e.g. Dogora) also appear in the Godzilla films. Going back to the Japan/U.S. co-production question-- I feel (as I think you do too), that the Japan (i.e., Toho) stamp on this film is a lot stronger than the American one. Because of that, it seems to me to fit into the Godzilla universe almost more than it does in the (American) Kong one. Admittedly, it's a pretty subjective judgment. I can see either way. -- Rizzleboffin 23:00, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
On second thought, I think I see the problem-- It's the Godzilla template. It shouldn't have all these non-Godzilla films on it, tie-in or no tie-in. Perhaps what we need is a Toho template, which includes all these non-Godzilla films including oddball things like The H-Man and The Last War. This Toho template could include the Godzilla template-- listing only the true Godzilla films-- as a sub-template. And perhaps also a template one level above the Toho template for all Japanese sci-fi, which links to the Toho template, a Daiei template (which has sub-templates for Gamera, Majin and miscellaneous things like Warning from Space), as well as miscellaneous things like Super Giant. Just some thoughts. (I have no idea how to go about creating templates myself...) -- Rizzleboffin 23:53, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Followed by/Preceded by

About the Followed/Preceded by field in the info box-- I assume Destroy All Monsters was put in because it was the next Toho kaiju film (in which case, the preceding one should be included also). But no, it's not a sequel to this film. And including these non-Godzilla kaiju movies in the sequence of Follow/Preceding is going to mess up someone wanting to trace through the sequence of the Godzilla films, so it's probably best to leave them out. -- Rizzleboffin 22:34, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

I agree, hence why I took it out.--SB | T 22:40, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
