Kings High School is a mixed secondary school in Bournemouth, Dorset in the United Kingdom. The school has specialist status as an Arts College.

[edit] History

The school was built in 1937 as East Howe Senior School - boys and girls were in two halves of the building (girls in the west, boys in the east). The original East Howe School was built in 1912 by Dorset County Council when the area was rural and only partially developed. The school was brought under the control of Bournemouth Local Education Authority in 1931 when Bournemouth extended its boundaries to include the area. The school grew rapidly and the seniors moved to their new building along Hadow Road (supposedly named after Henry Hadow of the Hadow Report of 1926). The original 1912 school is now used as a youth centre.

In 1969 the boys' and girls' schools would merge to become Kingsleigh Secondary School, along with the local infant school and junior school. A number of buildings were added to the school until it was put in special measures in 2000 and renamed Kings High School. The school was led by Mr Gareth Jones who turned the school around from a bad to an excellent school, he was promoted to run several schools in London and awarded an MBE in 2006. Kings high school is now led by Mr A Fendly.
