The Kingdom of Rwenzururu was a short-lived kingdom in the 20th century located in the Rwenzori Mountains between Uganda and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

[edit] History

On 13 February 1963 the Bakonjo-Baamba people from the Rwenzori mountains declared independence from the Toro Kingdom. On 15 August 1982 the government of Uganda forced the king of Rwenzururu to abdicate and annulled the Rwenzururu declaration of independence. In March 1994 the government of Rwenzururu accepted again the rulership of the king of Toro.
