King James's School is located on King James Road, Knaresborough, North Yorkshire, England and is regarded as one of the best in the area, scoring well on league tables. It went comprehensive in the 1970s, having been founded in 1616 as King James Grammar school, by Dr Chaloner. There is a yearly magazine published called 'The Chaloner' which discusses school events and achievements for both the school and its students. It is created by the students and edited by the school's sixth form.

The school has finished it's major building work, with a brand new art block with new and modern facilities.

Th current Headmaster is Carl Sugden, after the tragic death of Dr David Hudson after 18 months of illness.

Carl Sugden previously worked at King James's School as part of the senior staff team but later left to take a headmaster job at another school, but he returned in January 2008.

Dr Arnold Kellet has written a book about the history of the school.

The crest was registered in early BC.

'Quid Retribuam Domino' is the school motto.

King James's School consists of four school houses, Airedale, Nidderdale, Swaledale and Wharfdale.
