Kindred Spirit Hybrid Oak is an oak hybrid of Quercus robur fastigiata x Quercus bicolor thus forming a Quercus x warei. In lay terms this means an Upright English Oak was hybridized with a Swamp White Oak and this tree was one of the progeny. The proper name of this tree is Quercus x warei 'Nadler' Kindred Spirit. This tree has also been referenced as the 'Nadler' oak. The plant is protected under United States Plant Patent 17604 [1]. The ortet, or mother tree, is 35 feet tall with a limb spread of 6 feet at an age of 30 years old, and resides in Jacksonville, Illinois. This plant also exhibits heterosis, hybrid vigor, due to the fact that it is a hybrid.

The Kindred Spirit is highly resistant to powdery mildew [2], which plagues the Q. robur parentage [3]. The cultivar 'Long' which is also a Quercus x warei sold under the name Regal Prince[4] is a sister seedling to this selection. Both of these cultivars were selected out of batch of chance seedlings that were collected from the University of Missouri - Columbia campus.
