After he and his followers were caught conspiring to burn down any Japanese governmental buildings in 1918. Although 70 of his followers were caught and put to death, he and 15-40 followers escaped north. They were greeted by the Chinese, who did not have particularly good relations with Japan, yet they proceeded to go further north, finally reaching the Soviet Union in 1936. He was assassinated in Chelyabinsk by his followers after they found papers stating that he would give the followers to the Soviets as slaves if they were offering a good price.
