Kimmo Pohjonen (born August 16, 1964) is a Finnish accordionist, whose music can be said to stretch from Finnish folk music to rock and improvised avant-garde music. Kimmo Pohjonen's mission is to expand and revolutionize accordion playing and performance to new levels. He does this with electronic effects, samples, loops, Midi and more. On stage he also uses surround-sound and light show. He has many projects including the following: solo, Kluster duo with accordion sampling partner Samuli Kosminen, Kluster and Kronos Quartet - UNIKO project, Kluster and Proton String Quartet (Finland), KTU (with Pat Mastelotto and Trey Gunn from King Crimson), Animator (with visual artist Marita Liulia), Pohjonen / Eric Echampard - accordion / drums improvisation duo and many others.
He has also worked with the band Ismo Alanko Säätiö, JPP fiddler Arto Järvelä in the duo Pinnin Pojat and the folk music group Ottopasuuna. Additionally, he has composed music for filmscores, theatre and dance.
