Kimitoön

Kimitoön (Finnish: Kemiönsaari) is the largest coastal island of Finland with the area of 524 km². It is situated in the Finland Proper region in Western Finland province. The island has a population of 7,500 divided between the three municipalities Dragsfjärd, Kimito, Västanfjärd and Halikko; unlike the others, Halikko is mostly located on the mainland. Dragsfjärd, Kimito and Västanfjärd will be merged into one municipality in 2009; Halikko, on the other hand, will be merged with Salo and several other continental municipalities. The island is bilingual, the majority speaks Swedish.
