Kimball (given name)

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kimball is a relatively common English language surname - it is also a given name - although relatively rare. It seems probable it may have originated as a variant of "Kimberly", which is of Old English origin, and is given the meaning "Cyneburg's field", or "forest" or "from the meadow/fortress". In any case the name is generally contracted as "Kim" in actual use.

"Kimball O'Hara", the "Kim" of Kipling's novel is an example of the use of Kimball as a given name.
