Kimberly Diane "Kim" Craig is a fictional character in the Australian sitcom Kath & Kim, portrayed by Gina Riley. Kimberly (referred to as Kim) is a community phone center operator who, despite her "people skills", would rather complain and harass her mother, even after moving back in with her. Kim is an extremely lazy, self absorbed and spoilt young woman. She also has a "second" best friend who she also gives a considerably hard time, Sharon Strzelecki.

[edit] Family and Friends

Kimberly was raised in Melbourne, and is the daughter of Kath Day-Knight. Kimberly is married to Brett Craig, and they had a child, Epponee Rae.

She is estranged from her father, Gary Poole, who barely knows his daughter but was smart enough to play her for a fool. When he came back after learning that he and Kath were still married, he used Kim by telling her that he needed money for a new venture. Believing him, she gave the cash and in the process it would cost her, Brett, and Epponee their home.

Now she and Brett live with Kim's mother Kath and go through many troubles from which Kath tries to rescue them so she and Kel can be alone together.

[edit] Age

Kim claims that her age was 25 when the series began, but celebrated her 25th birthday in season 3.In season 4, in the episode "house" Kath mentions to Kim that she's "almost 27" when discussing Kath and Brett's living situations.

[edit] Employment

Kim, like her mother, is currently unemployed but has a hard time trying to search for a job, let alone keep one, which might explain her constant hiring and firings from the phone center. She also believes that Epponnee Rae will be her ticket to a brighter future by grooming (read exploiting) her as a performer, despite the fact that Epponnee Rae is not even 6 months old.

[edit] Appearance

While Kath is 'proud of her looks', Kim on the other hand isn't. She constantly eats, worries about her weight, gets very defensive when someone tells her that she needs to lose a few kilos (or tonnes in some cases), wears tight clothing and smokes. However, at other times, she's very satisfied with herself. She describes herself as a "Hornbag" and likes wearing that title proudly.

[edit] Relationships

  • Sharon: Kim describes Sharon as "someone who makes you feel better about yourself... ya know, in comparison" and has stated many times that Sharon is her second best friend, Tina being her first, strangely Tina has never been seen or heard throughout the entire series. After Sharon slept with Brett in the Season 4 finale Lust, Kim told her that she's dropping Sharon to her sixth best friend. Kim is also exceptionally mean to Sharon, often zeroing in on her biggest insecurities such as, her desperation to find a man, her weight and her appearance and then exploiting them. Kim also relies on Sharon a lot, whether it was picking up her dry cleaning to making Sharon do Epponee's homework assignments to prove what a good god mother she is. Despite this, Sharon still considers Kim her best friend and still stays friends with Kim.
  • Kylie and Dannii Bolton: In the episode "sport" in season one, Brett supposedly slept with the Bolton twins, and to get back at them, Kim joins Sharons netball team the, "sapphires".It is very interesting to note that the Bolton twins could be a play on Kylie Minogue and Dannii Minogue, considering the Bolton twins look quite similar to the Minogue sisters.

[edit] Recurring gags and features

Almost every character on the show has their own humorous features and Kim also, isn't without.

  • Kims best friend "Tina" - Kim refers to Tina several times, however she has actually never been seen, although one or two events do involve her, such as her hairdressing party in season one, in the episode "Gay".
  • Repressive nature to Kel - Since the beginning of the series, Kim has had very little conversation with Kel.The only time Kim will talk to Kel if it's something important, something she wants or to criticise him. This was evident in season four in the episode "house" where she claims the idea of Kath and Kel to move next door by themselves was his idea. This scene involves the most dialect for Kim talking to Kel.
