For your excellent and unusual images such as this icefish, this eye, this wriggly guy and feast of other plankton, I award you the photographer's barnstar. Oceanographic subjects on Wikipedia would be impoverished without you contributions. -- Solipsist 4 July 2005 13:50 (UTC)

I, M@rēino, award this Graphic Designer's Barnstar to Kils for Image:Iceedgekils.gif. Funky colors that actually deliver understandable scientific data -- awesome. |

[edit] My Curriculum Vitae
Hallo, my name is Uwe Kils. Many years ago I was invited to give an image of the Antarctic Krill to Wikipedia, and I liked the project - later moved 400 from my teaching servers over for this fantastic free education project.
I think the most important ingredient for the amazing evolution of humans is "Neugier". To explore into the unknown and space and to collect the beautiful and fascinating. As a teacher I trust that Wikipedia is on its way to grow into a very useful tool, especially for those schools and universities which do not have high fundings, also for developmental countries. A great feature is the multi-language capability. The information here is much more relyable than most of the "wild web", because the content is discussed amongst some 800+ administrators and 300,000 coworkers, many of them scientists, librarians and/or philanthropists.

I am North German from Scandinavia roots, in love with Danmark and Norge, live since 13 years in the USA.
I am Meeresbiologe from the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel and the Institut für Meereskunde, worked at the new Institute of Marine and Coastal Sciences, invited from Kiel, developing a virtual oceanographic institute. I know some about Antarctic krill and Atlantic herring and glasseels and developed high resolution in situ optics. We had the first NeXT and web server in Kiel University, the first fish webcam in the world, and my Antarctic krill image was the first animal ever cruising the web. I retired in 2005 and live now like a hippie as aquarelle painter and photographer at New York and Danmark. I am still active setting up online courses for the free Wikiversity[2] project which I helped to initiate as education tool for poor countries and students all over the world.
