Kilometraje is a hip-hop duo formed by two Cuban MCs, Pichi (aka Enrique Oriol, born October 27, 1986) and Bolo (aka Luis M Ruiz, born July 7, 1976). They met for the first time in the city of Hialeah, Florida in the summer of 2005. After a long debate about the state of Cuban hip hop, they decided to make a group that would represent its values.
From the time Pichi was a little boy he felt love for music, growing up at a time when Cuban hip hop started flourishing, he used to watched MCs battling in his hometown, La Pachanga, Cojimar. Today after a few years perfecting his art, Pichi is known in the underground circuit for his ability to freestyle and for his unique tone of voice. Some of his musical influences are Marc Anthony, Anónimo consejo, EPG, Papo Record, Orishas, Bow Wow and Nelly.
Bolo started MCing since the times of Vico C, around 1992. Growing up in Alamar, an area in eastern Havana had a great influence, since Alamar has been named as the birthplace of Cuban hip hop.[citation needed] In 1992 at 15 years of age, Bolo attended musical festivals and competitions. It was something rare to see an MC then, but there was a strong movement of breakdance and piwi, a name Cubans gave to hip hop dance. Eventually the movement gave way to the rise of Cuban hip hop and the Cuban MC. Besides writing, Bolo enjoys producing. Musical influences include Beny More, Bob Marley, Vico C, Biggie and 2pac.
Kilometraje has recorded 3 mixtapes; El Mistape Vol 1, El Mistape Vol 2 and Vampiros en Miami. A total of more than 60 songs with invited local artists: Yuniel, El Tata, Serrano, Clazeleo, Precinto 14, Kiesly, Kuban Daddy, Many and Sangre Cubana. They have also performed at Festival Flamingo (2005 and 2006), Festival de la Voz Hispana (2006), Flagami Fest (2006), Canal 22, Canal 41, Radio Unica, Zona Cero at Clasica 92.3, Café Nostalgia, IO Lounge and Club Metropolis.
At the moment Kilometraje is recording their first LP titled Distinto y Diferente. It comprises 15 new songs written and produced by Bolo and Pichi. Along with the CD, a DVD is also in production. With Distinto y Diferente, Kilometraje plans to define their style, opening the doors to the future of the group and raising the flag of Cuban Hip Hop.
