The area is best known for Royal Hospital Kilmainham, constructed on the site where the Knights of St. John of Jerusalem had their priory in Dublin. It now houses the Irish Museum of Modern Art, and Kilmainham Gaol, where the executions of the leaders of the Easter Rising took place. In June 2008, the grounds of the hospital will host a number of concerts involving Leonard Cohen, [1] [2] [3] Iggy & The Stooges [4] and Morrissey. [5] [6]

The Dublin Heuston railway station, one of Dublin's two main railway stations, is nearby.

Guinness Rugby Football Club (Guinness R.F.C.) is the nearest rugby club in the area. It is based in the Iveagh Sports Grounds on the Crumlin Road.
