Killean is a small village in County Armagh, Northern Ireland, about 6 km south of Newry. It was well known as a border and customs post with the Republic of Ireland. In the 2001 Census it had a population of 75 people. It lies within the Newry and Mourne District Council area. Killean is one of the three main areas that make up Killeavy parish, the others being Meigh and Cloughogue. There are also several smaller areas in the bounders of Killeavy but the areas of Meigh, Killean and Cloughogue would be recognised by locals to take into account the smaller areas. Killean people are known to be good fun and are always up to something in Ireland, this is known as being "MAD" not to be confused with angry. It is well worth a visit too, if you come to Ireland as you can visit the church that give Killean its name "little church" you can also walk the haunted bog road or if you are feeling really brave you could go to the fathom road and try to hunt down a bearded man that is said to walk the roads and talk no sense. Whatever you do always make sure you meet the local legend that is the "hoover" a good tale is to be had in his company and who ever counted 75 people in Killean needs a calculator there is 75 between the McDonnell "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stephen_McDonnell" and the McKevitt clans alone. There is expected 2000+ people living in the 'Greater Killean Area'. The area of Killeen is known to locals by the spelling 'Killean'. This was the original spelling before the widespread anglicisation of Irish settlement names. Máire Drumm, Vice President of Sinn Féin, came from Killean. Máire killed by loyalists while recovering in Belfast's Mater Hospital. "http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/M%C3%A1ire_Drumm"
