Kill II This (sometimes typeset as Kill 2 This) were an alternative metal band from Manchester, England.

Kill II This achieved some minor cult popularity during their run, clearly trying to find a niche without mindlessly following the trend of the day. Their debut, Kill II This (later re-released as Another Cross II Bare), was a somewhat pedestrian aggro metal affair, with gruff vocals and somewhat simplistic songwriting. Things improved on the next two albums (Deviate and Trinity), the band beginning to broaden its wings and experiment a bit. By the time of their fourth and last album, 2003's mass.(down.)-sin.(drone), the band had gone through two member overhauls (guitarist Mark Mynett the sole original member), with their style drifting into nu metal territory, though they are a shade more diverse than that tag usually implies, with nice touches such as the Middle Eastern guitar stylings on "Winter Green", and an improved vocal performance by new man Phil Bretnall. Eventually the band ran its course and broke up, with Mynett teaming up with several veteran British musicians in a new band called City Of God.

[edit] Biography

Phillip Bretnall replaced Matt Pollock on vocals at the end of 2001, and has brought a massive injection of energy and excitement to the Kill 2 This sound with his varied vocal style which ranges from soaring melody to brutal and guttural assaults. Originally hailing from Manchester metallers Profane, Phil was the obvious choice after some serious auditioning, and has proved himself more than capable on recent live performances...

Mark Mynett is the vision and focus behind 'Kill II This and has steered the band from their 1st album, Another Cross II Bare, through to the completion of the album Mass Down Sin Drone He formed the band in March '96 a guitarist and songwriter whose formidable enthusiasm, single-mindedness and finely honed talent for his instrument gives you one of the most original and interesting guitar players in the metal world today.

Pete Stone played and toured on Kill II This' debut album, Another Cross II Bare, and so is very familiar with what Kill II This are about. He is also a long time associate of Mark Mynett, having played bass for Mark's previous band China Beach. Having just completed the recent Fear Factory supports and some festivals in Europe with the band following Caroline Campbell's departure, Pete is delighted to be a full time member again. He has just finished recording the new album and has brought a lot of power to the rhythm section due to his very heavy playing style.

Recruited during the summer of 2000, Steve Rooney hails fom Doncaster. Formerly of London-based extremists, Fister, his style and attitude fit perfectly with the Kill II This ethos. His years of experience as a well respected session drummer in the London area give his playing a versatility that has been put to great use within the band. Steve recently beat over 300 drummers to become the drum tech london metal masterclass drum tutor. Following this appointment he has now been approached by Rhythm Magazine to write a column for the publication on a regular basis.[3]
