Kihnu Airfield
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Kihnu Airfield is an airfield on Kihnu island in Estonia. The airfield is situated near the village of Saareküla. Its ICAO airport code is EEKU. It has no IATA airport code.
The airfield has two crossing runways of 600 meters length and 60 meters width, with grass surface. The directions are 16 and 34, and 04 and 22. There are no landing lights or navigational systems on the airfield. Therefore, the airfield is only certified for use in daylight.
There are regular flights to Kihnu mostly in the winter and spring, when the ice conditions in Pärnu Bay make the ferry connection to the mainland impossible. The regular flights are served by Air Livonia, with small Antonov An-28 airplanes. Small private planes use the airfield for general flight in the summer.
Kihnu Airfield is owned by AS Pärnu Lennujaam (Pärnu Airport Ltd).
The leaders of the airfield warn that the airfield is not fenced in, so pilots who wish to land outside of the airfield's operational hours need to make sure that there are no people, animals or other obstacles on the runways before landing. [1]
