Programs I use to create the images\frames:

Microsoft Paint (marked with _MSP)

Inkscape (marked with _IS)
mIRC (marked with _mIRC) — yes, coding for mIRC is very cheap if you just want to generate simple graphics. I'll usually post-process the mIRC output images to add anti-aliasing and such.
GD and PHP (marked with _GD)
WZ Grapher (marked with _WZ)

I used Animagic to create all the animated GIF files.
