[edit] Discography

I'm breaking out the album/EP sections into separate articles. I hope no one minds this change. - McCart42 (talk) 17:04, 2005 Jun 2 (UTC)

Since Hebden's work is developing into a complex web of solo releases, side projects, remixes, etc., shouldn't we consider a seperate Kieran Hebden discography article? --Sparklism 09:12, 1 April 2007 (UTC)
I've done a bit of work in cleaning up the remixography, and I plan to do more. I still believe that we should have a seperate Kieran Hebden discography page, with just the main releases covered by this article - does anyone object to this? Thanks --sparkl!sm talk 20:11, 10 July 2007 (UTC)
Splitting the discography sounds good to me — it's well over half the article at this point. æ²  2007‑07‑10t22:04z
Done. --sparkl!sm talk 12:53, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Bashing on fans

Lets keep a NPOV on this article. To my eye, describing the group this music appeals to as "the new-media coffee-table music generation." has some explanatory value and is neutral. However, adding that those people are "a fairly elitist and self-styled 'intellectual' social group." is derrogatory and a very specific point of view. If you have a bone to pick with those people, do it somewhere else.

Can the editor from 87.80.120.8 provide documentation to support that "Hebden himself is notoriously arrogant and often patronising to people he views 'below' his status, and is disliked even by some staff at his own record label Domino"?

[edit] Inappropriate picture caption

Kieran Hebden spins records in the Grog Shop in Cleveland, Ohio

Not true. He is known for using only two computers in his music and the picture clearly depicts this. Ninetigerr 09:15, 6 July 2006 (UTC)ninetigerr

[edit] Name pun?

Is there a pun in the name? In Greek, tettares means four, and you find this all over the place in English -- the prefix tetra- is used to mean four. It's similar to the "quadri-" in "quadrilaterl".

See the Wiktionary entry: http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/tetra-.

If it's not intentional, would it be worth mentioning anyway?

I believe the name Four Tet is a pun on the word "quartet". æ²  2007‑01‑18t15:06z
Yeah, obviously, just wondered if the "Tet" was another pun. Else it could have been spelt as Fourtet. There's no Greek connection then? Just speculating, I spose. Maerk 02:29, 22 January 2007 (UTC)
Interesting theory, though I've not heard it elsewhere. æ²  2007‑01‑22t07:18z
I always assumed it was a musical term. If you read equal temperament you can see 12-TET (12 Tone Equal Temperament) is a widely used tuning system. I don't know a lot about music theory but I just guessed that therefore 4-TET was possible and that's where the name originated. I'd quite like to know the true meaning however. Also, for some dense reason the pun on 'quartet' never crossed my mind, but that makes sense too. Iae 23:23, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

I don't think we should put anything about where the "Tet" part of the name comes from. It would only be speculation on our part. I take it to refer to the Vietnamese holiday, but who knows? Reverse Gear 05:54, 20 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Move?

I propose moving this article to Kieran Hebden; it covers more than Hebden's output as Four Tet (remixes and Steve Reid, for example). æ²  2007‑06‑28t22:12z

Interesting point. I think you may be right, or perhaps we need seperate Kieran Hebden, Four Tet and Fridge articles? --sparkl!sm talk 20:01, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
No objections here. If the material ever becomes extensive enough, a separate article for Four Tet can be split out. Hopefully you plan on rewriting the intro a little too (as opposed to 'just' a page move)? --Quiddity 22:15, 29 June 2007 (UTC)
Of course. :) Oh — one more thing: are there any sourceable personal details? The article doesn't even have a date of birth.... æ²  2007‑07‑09t06:16z
Google only reveals these 2: [1], [2]. Nothing more precise for DoB that I can find. See google for interviews for more background details. --Quiddity 19:10, 9 July 2007 (UTC)
I've placed that information in the article — since those two aren't definitive sources I didn't use them as references, though. Still working on getting something cite-able. æ²  2007‑07‑10t18:49z
I've done a bit more work on the intro, though there's still a helluva long way to go...--sparkl!sm talk 21:51, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Album covers

Just a heads-up to let people know that a number of Four Tet album covers have been deleted due to not having a fair use rationale. (I'm personally disappointed that there wasn't any advance notice on the articles in which the covers were included.) I've re-uploaded the Rounds album cover (Image:Four Tet - Rounds.jpg) with an appropriate rationale and am working on a couple of others; if a couple of other people could go through the discog and help finish up that would be great. Thanks! æ²  2007‑07‑14t04:37z

[edit] Categories

When viewing the Four Tet page, the categories bar at the bottom includes "List of IDM Musicians", but he is not featured on the page when the link is followed. I presume this should be removed? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Drown (talkcontribs) 15:47, 5 April 2008 (UTC)

The page Four Tet redirects to Kieran Hebden. Kieran Hebden is what is included in Category:IDM musicians (hence it should stay). Hope that helps :) -- Quiddity (talk) 18:45, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
