Kieran McGeeney (Irish: Ciarán Mac Géibheannaigh ) (born 18 October 1971) is the current manager of the Kildare senior football team and Irish Gaelic footballer who played midfield and half back for the Armagh Senior football team and holds legendary status within GAA as one of the best half backs of the modern game. McGeeney is the secretary for the Gaelic Players Association, an association that was co-founded by his Na Fianna team-mate Dessie Farrell. McGeeney was educated at Abbey C.B.S. in Armagh and Queens University Belfast, where he studied Civil Engineering and graduated in 1993.

[edit] Sporting career

Kieran McGeeney (retired) captained Armagh to their first and only All-Ireland victory in 2002. He has won three All-Stars (1999, 2000 and 2002) and six Ulster championship medals (1999, 2000, 2002, 2004, 2005, 2006). He also received the 2002 Texaco Footballer of the Year award. McGeeney plays his club football for Na Fianna on the northside of Dublin and has represented Ireland on a number of occasions in the annual International Rules series against Australia. McGeeney was Irish captain for the 2006 International Rules Irish team who faced Australia in the first test at Pearse Stadium and in the second test in Croke Park and has currently made twelve appearances for his country making his debut back in 1998. McGeeney retired from inter-county football in 2007 but returned to Gaelic football as the manager of Kildare.

[edit] Club career

McGeeney was a member of Mullaghbawn's 1995 Armagh Senior Football Championship and Ulster Senior Football Championship winning side.[1] He later moved clubs to Na Fianna in Dublin. With them he won the 1999 Leinster Senior Club Football Championship as well as three Dublin Senior Football Championships.
