[edit] Introduction

The introduction was not written in an encyclopedic style so I have removed all but the essential information. I am going to copy what was originally written here and if it is deemed necessary, this information should be re-added in a more encyclopedic tone. At the moment it sounds very much like a record company biography.

"After being cut loose by Jive Records in 1991 after his debut album, Grits Sandwiches For Breakfast, it would take him 8 years to reappear on the national scene. In the spring of 1999, his 6th album Devil Without A Cause would explode behind the single "Bawitdaba", and would go on to sell 12 million copies. Kid Rock was able to keep the momentum after a slow start on 2001's Cocky, thanks in large part to the crossover country ballad "Picture", which featured Sheryl Crow. On October 9, 2007 Kid Rock released his 11th album Rock N Roll Jesus. The album became his first debuting number one album, helped by radio coverage of the single "So Hott". Kid Rock has sold 22.5 million albums to date." —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.113.19.179 (talk) 20:41, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Questions And Suggetions

I edited a LOT. I cleaned up some of the typos and incorrectly formatted stuff. This article is sort of a mess and reads like it was written by a hardcore fan or someone that Kid Rock pays. If anyone knows a good Kid Rock source, let me know and I'll rewrite the article as best I can.Pinkadelica 08:09, 26 August 2007 (UTC)

Add in how many times each album went Platinum? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 84.64.243.91 (talk • contribs)

What was "beeped out" in the song WCSR from the "Cocky" Album?

-Kid Rock's Phone Number

No mention of Joe C.? Doesn't he warrant at least a listing on the former members section?

page is lookin a bit better now :)

"Earlier in his career he performed with a white kid rapper named Joe C, who later died of complications."

Complications of what?!?!

Joe C. died of celiac disease. --Beau99 00:31, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Looks like it was edited by a 4 year old.

I noticed under the independat era days that there is mispelling about the interns. It says "helped" when it should say "help" —Preceding unsigned comment added by Ch200 (talk • contribs) 15:11, 20 October 2007 (UTC)

Here's a comment: the article doesn't read like something from an encyclopedia. Firstly, the introduction should provide only the basic information about who he is and what he's best known for (not give us some sort of record company biography concerning when he "exploded" on to the scene, or the details of individual albums). Secondly, the structure of the article - separating it into different eras based on his albums - provides far too much irrelevant information to make it a concise overview of his life. I'd advocate using a more traditional structure using categories such as "early years", "career", "personal life" and so on.
Third, there are some questionable assertions which have no source given - for instance, that he was dropped by Jive records because of the Vanilla Ice controversy. I don't know whether that's true or not, but there isn't any source given which backs up the claim. Fourth, I don't think listing a thousand different instruments he may or may not have played at one time really adds anything to the article. That section is generally to give people an idea of what a musician is best known for (for instance that Jimi Hendrix played the guitar) and throwing three hundred instruments at the reader is liable to cause confusion - particularly when a lot of the instruments are things like the tamborine or instruments which he rarely plays (such as the drums). I'm sure Jimi Hendrix played numerous instruments during his career, but if you listed every last one it would just confuse people who had never heard of him before.
Lastly, the article could use some criticism of his work. Many of his albums have been critical or commercial failures and this has to be mentioned. The article should portray Kid Rock as society sees him, not as his record company would like him to be seen. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 87.112.53.34 (talk) 12:38, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Children

I removed his sentence: "They also have a daughter named Liberty" from the section on Kid Rock's personal life because I could find no news article or dependable website confirming this information. Please feel free to add back with citation. Did You Watch VH-1 Driven they talk about her.

[edit] fanboyish

"Kid Rock's talent can be illustrated by the fact he is credited on his albums for not only vocals, but guitar (steel, rhythm, electric and acoustic), bass, percussion, mixing, mellotron, keyboard, backing vocals, slide guitar, scratching, programming, producer, and even banjo. He is famous for his high-energy personality on and off stage. Kid Rock's music has evolved considerably over time, which has caused him to lose and gain millions of fans."

need i say more? i would fix it up, but it's late and i'm tired. pity. Joeyramoney 06:34, 20 June 2006 (UTC)

I agree, the entire section seems a bit biased. The truth is that Kid Rock today is thought of as an unintellectual person with no worth musically whatsoever. I've heard only negative references about him, and it's been a LONG time since I ever met a Kid Rock fan. I suggest this article be adjusted to point out that he is, in general, despised by the populace. I'd do it myself right now but I have no sources handy, even though it is generally known that he is disliked. EndTasked 18:28, 24 July 2006 (UTC)-Biased please he plays 37 Instruments plays 7 on 3 Sheets To The Wind live, you want references its called looking at credits on albums. Kid Rock is a stage gimmick,Bob Ritchie the person is a great guy performimg for the troops ,visting cancer victims and setting up charties without involving media attention. He gave Jam Maste Jay wife 1/2 million bucks to help put Jam Master Jay kids through college. If he was disliked he wouldnt have sold 24 million albums

"Generally known" is not quite good enough for an encyclopedia. Have you come up with a reference yet? -- Mikeblas 15:10, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

Im a fan...and I'm ridiculed right left and centre...this article has got a lot shorter, some of these no good 'haters' have gone over the top with the clean up. i would update it but I've got to milk my cow. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.179.121.233 (talk • contribs)

It should get even shorter, if you ask me, as so little is referenced. -- Mikeblas 10:17, 19 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Sources on CMU?

Can someone provide me sources on some of the stuff related to CMU in the article? I'm not challenging the veracity of any of it, but as a student at CMU, I'd like to find out more. --Bveale 16:11, 19 July 2006 (UTC)

I've added a citeneeded tag. I can't find any mention of it searchin' the web, and I'm afraid it seems unlikely to find anything because it was s olong ago and a small fine. Maybe someone else has a lead on it. -- Mikeblas 15:02, 3 August 2006 (UTC)- go to extremekidrock go to pics go to rare items find the press release.

HOW DO YOU CHANGE PICTURE CAPTIONS? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Rodnuts (talkcontribs) 00:30, 25 July 2006 (UTC)

No need to SHOUT, Rodnuts! —QuicksilverT @ 01:28, 30 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Arrest?

The picture caption mentions his 2005 arrest. The article has no info whatsoever on an arrest record. Could someone supply a section on his legal travails?

--Rodnuts 00:31, 25 July 2006 (UTC)RODNUTS - 8:31PM EST

I've provided a link to a news story about his most recent arrest. -- Mikeblas 14:56, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Other Appearances section

I've been trying to clean up the article, but I'm not really sure what to do with the "Other appearances" section. Most of these items don't explain Kid's role in the "other appearance", and some don't even provide any information about the release besides a title. Would there be any objection to deleting the section outright? Is there a way to clean it up properly? -- Mikeblas 15:08, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Joe C Member or Former Member

I'm not sure Joe C should be listed as a former member everyone else in that section left or was asked to leave. It's seems like he should get list in his own section maybe Deceased Members or he should be listed in Members Section as Joe C (Vocals)(Deceased). My reasoning is that Joe C is still listed as member on Kid Rocks site and that he never left the band he died so he doesn't seem to fit in the former members section. Any thoughts? Rainer1 21:54, 6 September 2006 (UTC)-He died their for he his a former member.

I get what you are saying but I think it would be dishonest to say that. It is cool that Kid Rock is doing that for a memorial but for article purposes, he is a former member. If you want to create deceased in honer of him, go right ahead. I see no problem (nor should anybody else) with created a deceased profile and listing his name under it. 24.205.50.155 08:29, 16 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Barbara Bush

"Rock's lyrics for "Pimp of the Nation," which mention "pimpin' Barbara Bush," either the President's mother or daughter" Well, the song came out in 1990, and W didn't get into office until 11 years later, so I think it's safe to assume he was talking about the (at the time) first lady. Also, W's daughter, Barbara Pierce Bush, would have been 9 at the time, so the suggestion would be a little slanderous. I modified it. --ScarletSpiderDave 09:27, 19 November 2006 (UTC)-Bush Sr was in office though and Bush was a Gov.

[edit] Advertisement?

The following sounds as if it was written by his publicist, and it's unattributed. I've deleted it, but someone keeps putting it back:

November 2, 2006 NEWS: Kid Rock talks in Detroit Free Press!

With his three-month wedding tour wrapped up, Rock is turning his attention to his new album, recorded at his home studio in Ortonville and crafted with advice from illustrious rock producer Rick Rubin.

He’s nearly finished with basic instrumentation for the album, due in February, and is ready to head to New Orleans or “somewhere cool to hole up and just do vocals, vocals, vocals.”

He describes the material as big, red-blooded rock ’n’ roll, referencing Van Halen and the Rolling Stones — “stadium rock to the bone.”

“It’s current, up-to-date, fresh,” he says, “but it’s not reinventing the wheel.”

Among the new songs is a tribute to New Orleans — with drum machine, banjo and slide guitar — for which he hopes to enlist 78-year-old boogie woogie icon Fats Domino on vocals. ----

its called a news link so yeah its advertisement

[edit] Vandalized initial paragraph

I would have fixed the horrible mess of the first paragraph if I could find an edit link that got me in there. Every one I've tried skips that part.

yeh i had the same problem, thank sfor getting rid of that stupid first paragraph though, beat me to it by a few seconds.

[edit] Apology

I apologize for the recent vandalism on 12-10-06. Someone else was using my computer and screwed with it. I figured if I blanked the page a bot would fix it and it did. Again, my apologies.

[edit] Bobby East error

In the former members section, I see Bobby East. The link is actually to the race car driver. I don't believe that Bobby East was a member. If he was, then his article should reflect that. 24.205.50.155 08:34, 16 January 2007 (UTC) -He was a member he was in Hemigod which disbanded this year when he was with the group he had the long 80s hair band hair. He played Mellotron and Slide Gutair on Kid Rock if you read the credits for the album, he's won several detroit music awards for his gutair instumentals,

[edit] Article needs work

For example:

"Growing up, Ritchie sucked up on his father, a well-to-do car dealer in the area, frequently disagreed over young Ritchie's lifestyle choices. Following a lawn mower accident that resulted in his brother, Billy, losing a leg, his father shifted the burden of holding down the house and all the responsibilty of his brother on to young Robert (as related by the song My Oedipus Complex). This led to increased friction between the two."

This first paragraph is a mess, and needs to be reworded to be professional and factual. I suspect some responsible people have done good work on this article, and then it's been vandalized.

I was at a Kid Rock concert and was impressed by his apparent ability to play every instrument in the band. It would be nice to see a list of what instruments he's proficient in if that's available.

166.34.148.192 21:32, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

I've reworked the article significantly today, although some sections still require attention. ObtuseAngle 21:51, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Libel?

"During the recording sessions he meet Jimmie Bones, who at the time was cutting a record with Robert Bradley's Blackwater Suprise. Kid asked Bones to jam on some recordings. Disgusted with Mr. Richies offer, Bones began to urinate in Kid's direction. Eager to please, Kid opened his lips to recieve Bone's sacrement."

I was wondering if there was a source for this section?- some doose edited i put it back to what it is now go to jimmiebones.net you will find the article their

24.0.106.5 18:27, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Can anyone add a reference to his appearance in "CSI: NY" episode "All Access"?- Why it was on tv that all the referencing you need

[edit] Major list cleanup is needed

In my opinion: most of the information after awards is list clutter. It needs a much better formatting or should just be removed. Long bulleted lists aren't very useful, when the article is cluttered with them. RobJ1981 18:43, 6 April 2007 (UTC)

It looks fine to me since I Did it, its the same way Aerosmith's is this page sucked before I Change it. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.210.29.201 (talkcontribs)

This page, along with nearly every Kid Rock album page, needs major clean-up. It looks like it was written by a 7th grader.--Freepablo 05:38, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Back From The Dead

Why was the info about it being a top 20 rap hit at Central Michigan removed, plus yo da lin in the valley 23,700 fine removed from the info on grits its the only thing the album was known for and his meeting bones in white rooms studios.Plus he signed the deal with jive at 17 while still in high school not 18.id change it but id have to sign up since someone made where u have to sign up to change it

Can someone put the bold disclaimer of his nomination in awards under detroit music awards and put it as 2007 Nominated For Outstanding National Album for 'Live' Trucker a I Cant Edit Anything its annoying someone take that thing off thats a member.

Replace Rammstein Airbase with "Ramstein Airbase" Spelling error

[edit] "Nu metal" needs to be cleared up

While I don't doubt that there are those out there who class Kid Rock as nu metal due to his fusion of rapped lyrics and heavy metal/hard rock, at the moment nu metal is not under Kid's genres and I personally wouldn't classify him as such, but rather as rap metal and/or rapcore. However, the article constantly makes reference to Kid Rock's impact on the nu metal scene, which I don't think can be easily disagreed with, but it is not clear that Kid Rock himself was not part of the nu metal genre in the article. The article needs to be kept consistent, so either nu metal should be added to the genre list, or it should be mentioned in the article that despite being a big influence on the nu metal genre, Kid Rock was not actually part of it. I would personally go with the latter. James25402 16:08, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Alright, I've now done this. James25402 01:43, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Rock and Roll Jesus

"Rock and Roll Jesus" section needs heavy copy editing for style, spelling, and clarity.

[edit] Chris Jericho Theme

Although Kid Rock did The Undertaker "American Badass" theme, he did not do Chris Jericho's theme. Article needs to be edited. He clarified this in an interview here http://www.chartattack.com/features/2000/jericho/index.html

Edited this today. He did perform 'Legs' at Stacy Kiebler's theme song for the WWF Forceable Entry album. --Othernash 20:33, 23 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Hall of Fame induction.

The article says that Kid Rock inducted Bob Seger in the Hall Of Fame in 2005. Well, he was actually inducted in [2004]. He also inducted Lynyrd Skynyrd in 2005: http://youtube.com/watch?v=4hUj3a4CeZE 71.229.48.174 (talk) 02:14, 1 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Still many errors, article is messy

I edited the first paragraph, but I don't have time to run through the whole article...it's just full of misspellings, tense changes, grammatical errors, punctuation errors and discrepancies. For instance, one line said he has sold 22 million albums since the release of his debut album, then the VERY NEXT line said the debut album was never released. Seems to be no intro, just jumps right in and rambles on and on with no real structure to the article. 162.136.192.1 (talk) 17:29, 13 May 2008 (UTC)
