The KidsCan Charitable Trust is a national charity in New Zealand.
It was founded in August 2005 by Julie Helson, who after undergoing extensive research with primary schools throughout New Zealand, realised that there were too many Kiwi kids going to school without the basic physical and nutritional items that many of us take for granted. The KidsCan Trust has three key programmes: 'Raincoats for Kids', 'Food for Kids' and 'Shoes for Kids'.
Thanks in large part to supporting companies which include Warehouse Stationery, Conferenz, No. 1 Shoe Warehouse and a number of others, the KidsCan Trust currently support over 16,000 financially disadvantaged New Zealand children in 68 schools around the country.
The Founding Patrons of KidsCan are current All Blacks, Doug Howlett and Ali Williams. They are supported by a number of Ambassadors which include: Miriama Smith, Donald Reid, Jordan Luck, Jeetan Patel and James Franklin. Each of these talents help the charity by donating their time and their "name" to promote the cause.
As at September 2007, the KidsCan Trust has 20,000 New Zealand children on the waiting list for support.
