Kid Sampson is a character in Joseph Heller's classic novel Catch-22.
An underaged soldier in the Army Air Corps, Sampson is accidentally cut in half by the propeller of McWatt's airplane when he flies too low over the raft that Sampson is on. This immediately drives McWatt to commit suicide, and also leads to the bureaucratic "death" of Doc Daneeka.
