Kid Rock is an eponymous album by Kid Rock and his fourth Atlantic Records album. It was released in 2003. It was critically acclaimed by Rolling Stone Magazine; they named it one of the 50 Greatest Albums of 2003, calling it his finest work to date.
"Picture" seemed to give Kid Rock the confidence he needed to become a full fledged southern rocker and country balladeer. Where many of the ballads of Cocky lacked confidence by Rock mixing in rap parts this album doesn't stray away from the style. The album opens with the acoustic southern rocker "Rock N Roll Pain Train" a reflection of his 15 year music career. Hank Williams Jr shows up on the up tempo honky tonker "Cadillac Pussy" and ZZ Top's Billy Gibbon's on "Hillbilly Stomp" which mixes swamp funk with rap vocals. Sheryl Crow appears once again on the track "Run Off To L.A.", recorded at the same session as "Picture". Kid Rock covers Bad Company's "Feel Like Makin Love", Bob Seger's unreleased "Hard Night For Sarah" and David Allan Coe's "Son Of The South" renamed and altered to "Son Of Detroit". David Allan Coe also co -wrote "Single Father" which was an ode to Kid Rock's son."Black Bob" "Jackson, Mississippi and "Rock N Roll" are vintage blue rockers. Then there are the lost love ballads "Cold And Empty" and "Do It For You" and the patriotic themed ballad "I Am". There is a mid album placed rap track oddly called "Intro". The album has sold 1.8 million albums to date.
