Kiarash Anvari

Kiarash Anvari (born 1977 in Tehran) is an Iranian film maker and video artist.

Anvari was born in Tehran, Iran. He was graduated with a degree in filmmaking from Sooreh Higher Education Institute in Tehran. He also received his master degree in film studies from University of Provence in Aix-en-Provence, France. His graduate thesis, “MOCK-DOC: LE STYLE IRANIEN”, documented six years of work focused on detailed research in the narrative and visual structure of mockumentary used in the Iranian new wave, notably in the films of Abbas Kiarostami, Sohrab Shahid-Saless and Parviz Kimiavi, to probe the social analysis of contemporary Iran. During this time, Anvari developed his research based on his knowledge and experience in making mockumenatry to realize potential of this sort of film to improve critical discourse analysis through the social facts.
Anvari made his first video "Switch (2 minutes of a miserable life)" in 1998. He has since made six short films and videos, which were screened in many international film festivals and different cultural centers in the world. His films include "...And I Was Born To Sweet Delight! " (2000), "I Am a Purifier!" (2002), "Rapid Eye Movement"(2003), "Yesterday, Yesterday 15 Minutes Earlier!" (2003), "An Abstract Expression" (2004), and "Duet" (2006). In 2007 he participated in writing a short documentary film, named "Feminine, Masculine", along with director Sadaf Foroughi, for ZDF/ ARTE which is about the women's situation in Iran. This short documentary is a part of a program called Why Democracy?
Anvari's films and videos were participated in some international short film festivals, such as International Short Film Festival Oberhausen in Germany, Kalamata Documentary film festival in Greece, Video Mundi Film Festival,Chicago and Palm Springs, CA short film festival both in United States and Potenza short Film Festival in Italy.
His works have also been screened in different cultural centers in Europe, such as Witte de with, center for contemporary art in Rotterdam, Akademie der Künste, Berlin (Academy of the Arts, Berlin), Musée des Beaux arts de Nantes (Fine arts museum of Nantes) and The National Media Museum in Bradford,West Yorkshire,UK.
Anvari also has some experiences in stage performing and photography. He is living in both Iran and France and working as a film maker and video artist.
