Kiahan an average component of clothing within the samurai class during periods such as the Sengoku period (16th century) of Japan. The Kiahan were literally that of gaiters. However, Kiahan were averagely worn by ordinary travellers. When within the making of Kiahan, linen will be commonly used, but other materials such as cotton cloth will also be employed. The Kiahan's components will be based through the current season. When one is to wear Kiahan gaiters, they are to be sure that the inner cords are shorter than the outer ones, and it is also advisable that the cords are to be tied within the inner side of the legs instead of on the front or outer type area. This is because great discomfort would become manifested when the stiff shin-guards (suneate) would be placed over the Kiahan.
