Kičevo-Poreče dialect

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Kičevo-Poreče dialect (Macedonian: Кичевско-поречки дијалект, Kičevo-porečki dijalekt) is a member of the central subgroup of the western group of dialects of the Macedonian language. The dialect is spoken in larger territory in Republic of Macedonia mainly in the cities Kičevo and Makedonski Brod. Also the dialect is spoken in the villages of the region Porečje, such as the village Samokov and in the villages around Kičevo. Because of the migration of the population from Porečje, the dialect is spoken in many villages in the region Polog and in Skopje. The Kičevo-Poreče dialect is closely related with the Prilep-Bitola dialect, Upper Polog dialect and they share many common characteristics. [1] This dialect can be found in many books and novels, and one of the more popular is the novel Milion mačenici by Risto Krle. The Kičevo-Poreče dialect has a significantly lower number of Serbian and Turkish loan words.
