The station's direction is mostly focused on a variety of (hence the "V"-brand) R&B and Old School product but also play current Rhythmic/R&B fare as well, thus it leans Urban Oldies.

Since 2008, KHYL's HD2 subcarrier offers the Dance Top 40 "Club Phusion" format, which is programmed through Clear Channel's Format Lab[1]. It replaced a Urban Ballads & Love Songs format, which they launched in 2006.
