Khurshid or Khursheed (خورشيد) is a commonly used Persian name, meaning sun mostly in Iran, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and India. The name derives from Middle Persian Khwarshed, which is in turn a contraction of Avestan Hvare Khshaeta "Radiant Sun."
While mostly prominent among the Muslims, "Khurshid" is also a common first name among the Parsis of India and Pakistan.
Both males and female bear it as a given name.
