Khulna is named after a goddess of the Hindu religion, Khulleshwari. In 1947, the district of Khulna had a Hindu majority of 52%. But now about 75% of the total population is Muslim.

Khulna is a port city. Mongla is the second sea port of the country. In Daulatpur there are several jute mills. By road, railway and riverway it is connected to other parts of the country which play a vital role in its economy. beside the jute industries it is also famous for fishing industry. There few salt factories. Khulna has a newsprint mill which is about to reopen.Khulna shipyard limited run under the support of Bangladesh Navy building small ocean going ship.Khulna textile mill and hardboard mill are to be reopen under private ownership.

The largest mangrove forest in the world. Here you can find the royal Bengal tiger, a beautiful tiger, by seeing it you can understand what a tiger means. you can find many rare animals here, including: monkeys, chitra deer, crocodile, wild cock, wild pig and thousands of kinds of birds.
In Bagerhat there is famous shatgombuj (sixty pillars) mosque. It is a historical important place to see. Also famous for Khan Jahan Ali,s mazar. There is a lake there which has got crocodiles.
