Khorasan provincial football team first competed in 1988 Qods Cup (for Provinces) a competition that was launched after Iran-Iraq War comprising of teams from Iran's Provinces. Khorasan team was coached by Seyed Mehdi Ghiyassi and captained by Akbar Misaghian, the team reached the last 4 where it host to Tehran A team.
In 2007 Iranian Olympiad took part and this time Khorasan Razavi participated in the tournament, this time coached by Armin Rahbar. Iranian legend Khodadad Azizi decided to took part in the competition, so he put on a jersey, came out of retirement at age of 36 and took the field in two games as Captain (football). Due to IPL league games taking part at the same part, Armin Rahbar was unable to get some famous Khorasani footballers such as Reza Enayati, Alireza Vahedi Nikbakht, Hossein Badamaki, Hamidreza Zohani, Mehdi Vaezi, Saeed Maktabdar and Mojtaba Sarasiyabi.

An Iran XI football team traveled to Quchan to take part in a friendly charity match against Khorasan XI for Quchan's Earthquake victims.
