All the references to the Pear ethnic group here are hyperlinked to the Wikipedia page on the fruit Pear. I understand there may not yet be an article on the Pear ethnic group but at the very least the references in this article should link to a disambiguation page or, ideally, to a stub that indicates Wikipedia has no article for the Pear ethnic group and inviting someone to write it.

I would edit the links myself but I'm not sure how yet and I don't want to ruin the article. WilliamThweatt 02:01, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

The article is pretty bad already, anything you can do to it would most assuredly be an improvement... --Easter Monkey 02:37, 29 December 2005 (UTC)

I wouldn't call the article bad so much as the presentation of the information. The article itself contains plenty of good, albeit generic, information but it needs to be organized differently. Although my training is in the linguistics of the area, I also dabble in the "cultural anthropolgy", politics and ancient history of the region.

I am envsioning a reorganized article with a map image indicating the general location of the various Khmer Loeu groups, possibly color-coded to indicate ethnic/linguistic (Mon-Khmer, Tai-Kadai, Malao-Polenesian, etc) affiliations of the groups. After a general introduction including the definition and derivation of the term "Khmer Loeu" there could be subheadings denoting sections such as "cultures", "languages", "history", "relations with Khmer", "Recent Politics", etc. all containing general information, leaving specific information to the seperate articles describing individual groups. The text already here can be used for a start and I have access to other citable sources in English, Khmer, Thai, French, German and Dutch.

Any suggestions? I would not feel comfortable undertaking such a major rewrite without first getting some feedback on the idea. (Geez, I spend too much time here!). Also, I've seen plenty of maps such as I described, would it be acceptable to "copy and paste" or to scan one in as long as the source is cited? Or would I need specific permission? I am not clear on copyright issues. WilliamThweatt 01:50, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

I'm not smart enough on copyright issues, but if it's PD, i.e. a work of the U.S. government, more then so many years old, etc. then you can use it. As far as a rewrite goes, don't worry about feeling "comfortable undertaking such a major rewrite" --- be bold and make this one your masterpiece... Actually though I think it looks like someone came through and did a cut and paste from the Library of Congress article. It needs context, images, maps etc. if you can find ones that are available under whatever copyright. By bad already I meant exactly what you said, from a style, format, and overall presentation perspective it's bad. The text that is there seems very academic and dry and needs fixing up to make it "look" better. Anyway, good luck, I'll be around (as I'm sure will plenty of others...) to take a look at your progress. --Easter Monkey 08:12, 31 December 2005 (UTC)

I haven't forgotten about this article, I've finished gathering my source material and am now beginning to write new text. Still collecting images. Hope to have the new article up in a couple weeks.--WilliamThweatt 04:44, 20 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Brao/Tampuan

Just to clarify my edit, Tampuan is not a subgroup of Brao. That distinction goes to Krung and Kavet. In fact, it's hard to say whether Krung and Kavet are subgroups of Brao, or whether it's the other way around. All three seem to be of equal importance/notability. Tampuan is a separate group, located entirely in Ratanakiri. (Barang 17:29, 8 April 2006 (UTC))
